Got to play in the desert a little, pretty happy with how everything behaves. Going to try some kind of off road trip pretty soon.

A gear swap will bring things back in line, but it isn't cheap. A "few inches" taller tire will have a significant effect on drivability, so you may want to consider that. On some vehicles you can change settings in the computer, but I've never seen a tire shop recalibrate all the vehicle...

Awesome! I went with 4:88s and true tracks in both ends of my van, with 35s. Seems to be just about right for the places I go.

April 2020 and yesterday.

So, here's the rack, etc. Drove it about 550 miles home, no problems. Felt a little squirrely at first, but a tire pressure adjustment calmed it right down. 8500 pounds all in, right at 10' at the top of the rack.

4x4, 4:88 gears, true tracks on both ends, sitting on 35s. Waiting to pick it up tomorrow after the rack, sliders, and ladder are installed. More pictures and a better write up after we make the 400 mile trip home.

Look for reliability and capability. It isn't as much fun when you're breaking down all the time. In terms of capability, you want something that will support your build goals without overloading/overstressing it. I'm a Ford guy through and through, but I have to say Toyota builds some...

Anybody know anything about this event? 10-12 September in Bonner's Ferry, 100 bucks a head. I'm not affiliated or advertising, I just saw it on facebook and thought it looked interesting. The flyer says it has all the usual goodies, classes, trails, vendors, etc.
