Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
For your consideration. One set of 80 Series Land Cruiser Ironman 50mm/2" lift springs.
Fronts - Toy024C. Rated for 110-242lbs over stock
Rears - Toy013B. Rated for 220-660lbs over stock
I just swapped in new Slee coils and these need a new home. They have about 100,000 miles on them but are...
Installed 4" springs today. Mainly for additional load capacity in the rear. The spring rate on my old 2" was too light. But I'm sure I'll enjoy the additional uptravel at speed. The tires are 315/75R16 for reference. They look small now.
Rear spring comparison shot. Slee 4" heavy...
The pumping is what I want to eliminate. I've got a couple old pump (Pure & MSR) style filers now. I'm hoping the gravity unit will be reliable enough and I can just continue to carry iodine as my back up.
I imagine performance will deteriate with time as gravity can only push water trough the filter so hard compared to a physical pump. A new element of course should bring it back to new.
This reminds me I need to pull it from my gear and disassemble it to dry before storing it until next time...
I had the unfortunate pleasure to battle a vehicle fire last week. My son and I were solo on a road trip and a couple miles out into the high county looking for a camp site for the night.
I had an accessory wiring harness under the hood short out and start a fire. It burned beyond the point...
Depends on the kind of that your taking about.
The most important thing is never tear it down wet and then store it. Dry it out when you get home before long term storage or it will mold.
There are treatment products available depending on the tent fabric. But a new tent should not need...
My Engel fridge will run 2-6 days depending on ambient temps before my group 31 battery will no longer start the truck. Although I have all the parts I'm yet to install my dual battery system. It's rare my truck does not move daily.
If your going to run a larger solar panel make sure you get a...
I recently picked up a new water filter for both overland and backpacking. I choose the Katadyn Base Camp Pro 10 liter model. https://www.katadyn.com/us/us/368-8019201-katadyn-base-camp-pro-10l_usa
Sourced from my preferred local dealer www.bcexp.com
I got to use it for the first time this...
I ended up getting the rotors from tirerack.com. Slee was out of stock at the time. The EBC pads I generally get from Summit Racing.
And yes, I like to pre-load the wheel bearing with the wheel on as it's easier to feel for play. I don't like the method Toyota prescribes in the manual. It's...
Travis who builds these kits is a one man show like myself. It's a side business he started, as he saw a need, much like me with my barriers. Buy from his site you linked and your supporting him and family directly. He is a fireman/medic by trade.
Fiskars X15 and an old "sawvivor" folding bow saw. Both are compact and targeted for firewood duties.
I'm yet to find any deadfall accross a trail that was not easier to simply move by hand or drag with a truck than it would have been to chop. Out east, probably different.
Front Brake Job.
Not real exciting but I'd figure I'd share. They were not due for replacement but one of my rotors got warped last month when a wheel bearing became loose while dropping into Silverton CO on the HWY. The star washer that locks the two bearing preload nuts in place failed...
