    My first Overlanding Trip

Excellent write up! I actually haven't gone on my first trek yet, so this one makes me even more excited to do so! I think that for many people, too much time is spent on worrying about having all the perfect gear and rig accessories. As evidenced by this guy, you can have a lot of fun with very...

CL Find: Bay Area, CA Dealer Overland-Ready 100 Land Cruiser

Thought it was interesting to see a rig like this being sold by a dealer. Higher miles though. Looks like it has lift, KO2s, ARB bumpers w/ winch. 248K miles, asking $16K http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/ctd/5584708307.html

Snorkels - More Popular in Australia?

Yes, that is an option, but I'm not sure that I trust my engineering capabilities, and I'll have no one to yell at but myself if I screw something up. Because I'm so paranoid about ripping into my fender, I'm likely going to have a 4x4 shop with experience do it, especially because of the...

Snorkels - More Popular in Australia?

Thanks guys, I'm not the only one! If I'm going to drill into my fender, I'm thinking I should spring for the real deal (ARB or TJM), but I've heard that the knock-offs are a very good bang for your buck. Any words of wisdom?

Snorkels - More Popular in Australia?

This is based on anecdotal evidence, but it seems like snorkels are more "standard" on off-road vehicles in Australia vs. the United States. If this is true, just wondering why. Is it marketing? Just a bit dustier in general? Are they onto something that we ('Merkuns) haven't realized yet? I'm...

Good point on the braking. I would imagine they mess with suspension too.

    Jeep Wrangler Truck

Awesome! What are advantages of a truck vs. an SUV when it comes to overlanding? I would imagine space would be a major draw.

    PickleJuice's 1999 Lexus LX470

Thanks! Just aired them down to 40psi. Have you noticed a degradation in fuel economy with your steelies? I'm thinking 1 mpg less with the added weight of the steel 18" wheels and 33" tires.
