Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Options are endless from store bought to DIY. We suffered a 3 day power outage last week so I pulled the trigger on a Goal Zero Yeti 1400 with 100 watt solar panels and it made our weekend tolerable.
Sounds good. Chad really sold my wife on the Hiker at Expo giving us the tour around his. We are planning a 3 week trip to Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and surrounding area next November and looking seriously at getting a Hiker off road to tag along.
Keep posting you upgrades as they offer...
Darkside,
First State Overland has a YouTube video on his trailer that is excellent. Go to his channel "FirstStateOverland" and check it out. I saw his setup firsthand at Expo East and he did an awesome job.
Yeah, I would get the off road model for sure but it just sounded like for me to clear the swing up door, the trailer would need to go taller.
Sounds like to me the swinging barn door is the option I want to take.
I did use air tools at one time on my job but starting last year we changed over to Milwaukee battery impacts among other tools and they work fantastic. Our shop guys (I work for UPS) take the Milwaukee impact out on road calls for the big rig tractors and they change tires with no problem...
Big Thanks for the feedback Steve. I'm just over 6 ft. so sounds like the swing up door for me would be a problem. Or the trailer gets a full on lift kit.
What I really like about Darkside's setup is the Alu Cab Foxwing with sides is a great piece for cold weather camping which is...
Darkside Overland,
One question in regards to the swingout rear door. If you had a choice, would you still go with the swing out rear galley door or would you go with the swing up? I see the way you attahed the awning lessens the space impact, nice call, but just curious on your thoughts...
One of the best places is actually YouTube but the caveat is a video 3 years ago doesn't mean the trail hasn't changed or they could be closed down. There is far more public land in the West than here in the SE and what there is can be negatively impacted by poor use by off roaders themselves...
I'll be watching the winter weather for that perfect day to go into NC for a run on Hurricane Creek and Max Patch. Or at least Cohutta, Charlie's Creek or even Duncan Ridge if Ga. 60 is passible.
My Big Chef Explorer. Not something for general overlanding but there are some occasions we find it useful. For overlanding we use the Coleman Fyrecadet.
I use a Coleman Fyrecadet on the trail but we use the Explorer a lot during college football season as our neighborhood loves watching the games and cooking.
I know this was posted several months ago but if you still have it, keep it. I've got a small 2 burner but also a big Camp Chef Explorer. Sometimes it is fun to find a spot and spend several days kicked back and if with a group, one large kitchen for all can be a real advantage. A big stove...
My wife is going to love this thread. She saw the Hiker trailers at Expo East and was hooked. And I can see where she has good reason too be.
Thanks for posting this and everyone's contributions.
Yeah, CVT guys were great. Wife was having no part of any RTT conversation but after 90 minutes looking them over and then asking questions, I sensed a change in tone. She saw some Maxtrax and asked what they were and after she got the answer she looked at me and said, those are a must buy...
AWESOME!
Late 70's/early 80's owned a Dodge Power Wagon and a rail buggy. Did we ever have fun. On Friday nights after work we strapped down the beer coolers as 7 of us in the neighborhood had rails, wives in the passenger seats and to the back of the neighborhood where there were miles and...
