Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
It's possible, I did run into a couple of solo explorers and a group or two. Did you happen to hoof it in the snow for a bit? I saw someone with a similar vehicle to yours who was on foot once he hit the snow line.
I've been heading up there pretty much every weekend this past month doing...
I took another trip up this weekend and poked around north of Hough Springs. Found some interesting obstacles (river crossings, hill climbs, etc.) and trails if anyone wants to check them out on Saturday. I ended up turning back once I hit the snow line, something about being solo and the idea...
I found myself in Mendocino again this weekend. I'd suggest not following the instructions to Pinncle Rock from that website. It's a much more fun drive to go up Walker Ridge Rd to Bartlett Springs Rd and then work your way over to Deer Valley Road.

I'll be in a similar boat. I'm driving up from the North Bay, from near the Maritime Academy (It's about a 2hr drive from here). I can roll out around 6PM and we can convoy up there together if that works. I think the plan is Friday-Sunday (I personally cant go beyond Sunday).
From the drive up this weekend, everything south of Elk Creek didn't appear to have much snow if any at all. So I agree with MEU(SOC) about the snow, I don't think we will run into any issues (famous last words).
I was just up there yesterday west of Elk Creek. They just got quite a bit of fresh snow (looked about a foot deep) on top of a few inches of packed snow.
If we can make it up to Pinnacle Rock I think that'd be a good destination this time around.

I can do that for sure.
Just curious, does anyone know if Mendocino is getting any snow like the Sierra's are getting for the next couple of days?

I like Stanislaus too, but it's essentially shut down until April 15th at the earliest. Mendocino is open however, which is where we are looking now.

Those are some great pictures. I hadn't thought about Big Sur, I was under the impression that there were still road closures along the 1 & 101 (Not really relevant to Central CA, but the HW south of Stinson Beach is still closed). I'll have to scope it out.
I checked out the Alabama Hills/Whitney Portal area with my brother over President's Day weekend. Ended up at Olancha Pass, had to load up on cold weather gear, so I'm set there.
Let me know when you are thinking and I will see about freeing up my weekend. The sooner the better so we can let...
I poked around up there last weekend, drove the M6 (I think) to Lake Pillsberry trying to scope out some spots. I'm thinking about going this weekend, I've got Monday off for Presidents Day.

I'm looking for some suggestions for a 2-3 day winter trip in Central/Northern California (I'm willing to go up to Southern Oregon as well). I'd like to get in some fishing.
Things I'd like to avoid:
-Freezing temps - I don't mind the cold, but I don't have extreme cold weather gear
-Difficult...
Missed my alarm, just checked drive times and I'm not gonna be able to make it up there in time. Have a good time.
