Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Well the D.C. leg went well. We left there yesterday morning after a good breakfast at Tastee Diner in Silver Spring, Nd and headed for 301 to connect to Va 17. From there we made our way around Norfolk sand to the Outer Banks. We made it to the campsite at 7pm, setup camp, had some freezer BBQ...
We are heading out Sunday to go visit friends near DC, so we're taking the kids to see the monuments and a couple of the Smithsonian Museums while we're there. Tuesday, we're planning on driving from DC to the OBX to camp for a couple days since the weather is supposed to be great. We've never...
So far I like it quite well. It's no Kenwood or Yaesu as far as finish, but it works well for it's price. I'm currently just using a 2m/440 Tram dual band. I have a duplexer to go with it and I want to add a 6m whip to my other antenna mount. I considered the quad band that goes with it but I've...
Are you looking to just put a straight line up the map and try to stick to dirt and trails along the way our are you going to snake along where the trails are? That'll make a difference in where you enter and exit states and what areas you pass through I'd think.
One of my Elmers runs hamsticks with shunt caps setup in power poles so when he swaps a stick, he swaps the cap out to get the right match. I can't remember the theory behind the cap but if your hamsticks present as very broad banded, them you need a shunt cap. Hamsticks should be VERY narrow...
Neat video but even he mentions that the 72 and coleman loose ice faster because of the volume. If you had them all filled based on their volume rather than just the same quantity of ice, they would both probably perform better than they did in his video. That's just my theory though.
OK, sounds like you and I had had a similar idea. I was toying with the idea of turning a 80m Ham stick into a "random wire" with a tuner in the cabin, very similar to your idea. I was going to use a body grounded mount though.
I'm looking forward to Field Day, going to be operating with the club from our clubhouse. A couple members and I had talked about portable/battery operations from one of the rarer counties but it just hasn't worked out for us this year.
Yes, but the way it was stated is that he's allowing radios out of his control to be used on Ham bands by non licensed operators, a clear violation of the law and something you studied to get a tech license and should be aware of.
The FCC clearly draws the line in the law that the control operator (your licensed friend) should be in control of the radio at all times. He should be able to power it off or make adjustments to it from his location.
I just ordered a Raingler full attic net for my Xterra, the next thing will probably be helper leaves and shocks for it. The big truck needs adjuster sleeves and a power steering box so I can rebuild the steering system completely. I'm tired of this wallowing around in the road junk it does.
Our VE team had our first test session and our first licensee last night! Within an hour of passing her Tech exam, she had her call and I believe she made her first contact on her way home using her husband's mobile rig. Anyone who would like to get there license, please check the info in the...
And you don't have to know those things to use FRS or CB either, that's why they aren't licensed. Amateur radio lets people access so much more power and equipment that the dedication to learn those things is used to "weed out the weak" so to speak.
My Great Aunt got her tech license when you...
Common convention is to keep about 4ft between antennas, but its not a must as I know several people who have them closer. I would personally mount one on either side of the vehicle, with cb on am/fm radio antenna side. I've yet to see that mount behind the license plate bracket work since no...
The top of the forum is out of whack on my cell phone this morning. Using Firefox browser for Android. Any other info needed?
Also can't see the "mark all read" button in if you click "new posts".
Thanks
In 34 hours I managed to go about 350 miles, camp one night in a neat little campground, meet some new people and have a great supper with a fellow OB member. All in all, it was a great weekend and I'm looking forward to working out another route and having another ride!
This is my route. The...
