What is the last thing you bought and plan to buy?

The lift in finally installed. Took me three evenings and one whole day, but it's finished. Next thing in planning to buy is a Firestone Lifetime Alignment. Then after that I'm going back and forth between a tire carrier bumper or regear/lock it.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Well it's done!!!! Post lift by TerryD, on Flickr It's taken a good bit to get it done, but with the help of my dear wife and a buddy who came over yesterday after I helped him hang his new HF antenna, it's finally done. I've been looking forward to seeing it on it's wheels again all week. I...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Mostly finished up the rear end tonight. I just need to get new bolts for the bump stops. I've got to tear the front apart tomorrow and hopefully get it finished up Saturday and back on its tires. Then to find a shop to align it... Hard to see in this picture but the rear axle is on the stands...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Lift has begun! Both Helwigs removed Both shocks swapped U-bolts off both sides One Alcan in Started around 5, worked about an hour and a half between pumping up neighborhood kids bike tires, a nice supper the wife fixed and packing everything back in the garage to close up for the night...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

I spent some time in the garage cleaning up my lift parts a bit and organising everything since my last few pieces finally arrived. I'd like to get started installing it this evening if possible and hopefully be done by Saturday.

    OB Frequencies List

It'd be similar to microwaving your eyes. Probably not the best idea.

Anyone reduce the lift on your vehicle?

I think its a good direction to go if you're not happy with it. A friend of mine was very happy with the heavy load Old Man Emu kit he put on his 4Runner. He uses it for his contracting business and it is routinely loaded with generators and tools. Its also a good height for 265/75/16 tires.

HAM Radio Call Sign Check-In Thread

I've heard that there are many many nets on 28.400. I'm going to start listening to it more often and see if I can stumble into one eventually. I have very few 10m contacts for my 8 years on the air.

Spring is coming, how many buying new tires?

New tires aquired! New Tires by TerryD, on Flickr New Tires by TerryD, on Flickr I can tell they are quite a bit heavier than the P rated 265's and I think I might focus on finding a set of 3.69 geared axles for it. It's just a quiet inside as it was so I think for the time being, I made the...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Just got back from the tire shop. 285/75/16 Cooper Discoverer A/T3 I had them remove the TPMS sensors. I don't feel like they are worth the effort right now. I may put them back in down the road but for now I'll just do without. Before: New Tires by TerryD, on Flickr New Tires by TerryD, on...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

I took two of the girls to my Dad's house this weekend. We got out yesterday and rode around in the hills I grew up in and even took a little walk around a small lake they built on top of the mountain. It's nice to come home and do the things you did when you were younger. View from the hill...

Electric Winch vs Hi-Lift Winching Kit?

This is a great test. Some people will probably only find themselves recovering in emergencies while others will be running trails where a winch could be a must to get through. I've carried a Hi-Lift for years. I've used them to break tire beads and plenty of lifting. I've never attempted to...

    Army surplus uses??

I have a surplus water and gas can as well as two 20mm ammo cans. One of the ammo cans is the toolbox in my Xterra. I also use a few molle pouches on my EDC pack.

What is the last thing you bought and plan to buy?

Those little steps are SWEET! Almost makes me want to drill holes in my Xterra! Get the sliders! There's a thread on here about building a skottle from a plow disc. Great excuse to learn to weld! I ordered a full set of braided SS brake hoses on Monday. I need the extended length for the...

Is Single Side Band (SSB) useful in overlanding?

A license is required for GMRS. Its FRS that doesn't require a license. They share some frequencies but you can't use repeaters, have more than 2w or have a removable antenna on FRS.

A couple days exploring Cherokee, Pisgah and Nantahala Nat'l Forest

I added these tracks to my map! Some of it was already on there but we're gong to have to do several trips there in the future to check it all out. Thanks!

A couple days exploring Cherokee, Pisgah and Nantahala Nat'l Forest

Try this @Trailex Click on the little box with the arrow in the upper right corner of the map When it comes up in drive, click "Open in Google My Maps" at the top of the page. (You may have to be signed into Google for this to work properly.)

A couple days exploring Cherokee, Pisgah and Nantahala Nat'l Forest

I thought that was a link to the map in google maps. Let me work on it some tonight. I'm going to be around the computer filling out some QSL cards and I'll try to get a link to it up. I had shared it somewhere (thought it was here) so people could access it to add routes to it or download it.
