Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
The TM-D710Ga will actually embed that info along with tone, offset, ect with a menu setting into "Status 5" and you don't have to input that [FREQ MHZ]. I'll have to look at mine this evening and see if I can find the setting.
I used APRS during my recent trip to Colorado and was surprised by...
I bought one of the Thermarest Mondoking XXL sleeping pads for the Colorado trip and man is that thing awesome! It took forever to inflate the first time but after that it would fill up fast and slept a lot better than my old air mattress. Probably gonna have to get another for the wife once she...
For those interested, the Roanoke Hamfun is coming up on the 3rd of August. They will be having test sessions that day at 10am for anyone wanting to try for their license.
I'll be there, it's usually a good time and some good gear for sale.
Thanks again for the write-up. I used SMSGTE to send texts to my wife when we were in Colorado at camps where we had no cell service to let her know. That was pretty nice to have.
That's a neat looking CB. President has always made good radios. I've been considering the McKinley with SSB for a while myself. I'm just not sure I'd use CB enough though to have one in the rig right now.
@Kent R Can we get this moved to the coms forum?
Now, I much prefer a dual band, dual watch radio. I've had a few mono-band radios and even a single watch dual band and I wound up dropping the coin on the Kenwood TM-D710GA in the end. It's a massively capable radio with lots of functions I...
Welcome! I'm originally from over in Grayson County. I used to run across 58 to 16 and down into Marion quite a bit. It's a bit of a pull for you, but we have a meet-up in Roanoke each month! Check into the meet-up thread in my signature!
A couple of the trails we're looking at are listed as moderate-difficult. Not sure I'll be able to run them all, but I'm not too big of a man to turn around if I'm in over my depth. However, luck favors the prepared.
I've been prepping for a trip to Colorado. Just about ready to go. I've got to pack clothes, strap down my jerry can and change the oil and I think I'm set. A buddy is picking up a used alternator and CV shaft for trail spares and bringing them to the rendezvous.
I'm working on a map for a trip to Colorado next month and that trailsoffroad is AWESOME info. Thanks for posting that.
We're a little less organized though. We have a list of trails and we're just going to point in that direction so there will probably be lots of question asking. I need to...
Looks like a fun setup! Glad you had a good time. What software do you run on the tablet? We use N3FJP at the clubhouse and I must N1MM+ for logging contests personally.
I was a little standoffish about trying to call CQ during a contest the first time, but one of my Elmers is a contester and...
We just wrapped up at the EOC. We had 6 operators operating as a 2F low power. Total QSO points were 1228. Last year we had a 1230 so right in line.
I had a great time as usual. I spent most of yesterday on 20m and on 15m today. I never could get a good run parking and barking so I feel like I...
Next meet-up is on the 14th but I'll be unable to attend. We need to try to get something together for August. Maybe another ride around somewhere or a mild trail.
Correction from before. A friend has put up a GMRS repeater in Roanoke. It operates on Ch18 but your radio must be able to work repeaters in order to use it. It has an input offset of +5MHz and a Pl tone of 131.8.
Right now it's at his house and is kind of limited on range, but as long as you...
