Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Last year we did a road trip that included a couple days in DC then camping on the Outer Banks. This year, we are talking about spending a couple days knocking around Cherokee, Pisgah, and Nantahala Nat'l Forests followed by a few nights in a hotel in Gatlinburg.
I've got a few maps with tracks...
**I don't have the time to set this up right now with other things going on in life that are more pressing. We'll try to get together on something later on. Sorry everyone.**
Hey Virginians! We've been chatting about a state-wide meet-up for a bit now. Who would be up for a weekend at James...
With the recent upgrade, we seem to have lost the button that would allow you to jump to the top of a page in a thread. While you can use the slider bar on a computer, on my Android it was handy to snap to the top of the page to quickly find my place in the thread or get back to the "new posts"...
I was at a RTT Rally this weekend near Gladstone, Va. I met a few OB members there but I wanted to just start a thread on here so we could share stories and pictures from the weekend. Hope everyone had a safe trip home!
Special thanks to Ranger @John Fury and @Adam Schalow for organizing...
The Virginia West crew is going to do a trip to Big Levels near Staunton, Virginia. There are some people planning on camping as well as some who will just be out for the day. Trail is said to be stock friendly but be aware there are some deeper water holes to cross.

They are getting a Cars and Coffee going on in Roanoke! According to the Facebook page, it happens every other weekend at the Buffalo Wild Wings at Tanglewood Mall, 4335 Starkey Rd, from 8am-11am. Check out the facebook page, search for Roanoke Valley Cars and Coffee.
The Roanoke Amateur...
We are heading out Sunday to go visit friends near DC, so we're taking the kids to see the monuments and a couple of the Smithsonian Museums while we're there. Tuesday, we're planning on driving from DC to the OBX to camp for a couple days since the weather is supposed to be great. We've never...
The top of the forum is out of whack on my cell phone this morning. Using Firefox browser for Android. Any other info needed?
Also can't see the "mark all read" button in if you click "new posts".
Thanks
Well my first real trip is under my belt and I'm pretty happy with the Xterra!
I started out Friday around 11:30 am, leaving the house headed on a mostly unknown route headed north from my house toward Harrisonburg, Va. Now this normally would be about an hour and a half drive, and it wound up...

OK guys, I'm reworking this thread for regular monthly meets instead of starting a new one. The Kickoff was great and I hope we can keep this going...
This kind of stems from a discussion @yabbaz and I were having this morning and it got me thinking. So this thread isn't to discuss the merits of any one means of communication, rather to just gauge what the community has available as a whole. I figured a poll would be easiest. If I missed any...
So we got this tent last week and tried it out this weekend. Another member suggested that I should write a review so here's my go at it.
Two years ago our old 10 man dome tent died a pretty rough death and we've been discussing what to replace it with. The compact size of the dome tents when...
I thought I'd start a thread about this little radio as I get acquainted with it. I've read a lot of the reviews, both positive and negative online and I'm sure my opinion is worth the price of admission, but I thought I'd share it just the same.
I picked this radio up used from a friend who...
I came upon this and it seemed relevant to our hobby. I thought you all might enjoy the read as much as I did.
12 WORST CASE SCENARIOS: WHAT TO DO RIGHT WHEN THINGS GO WRONG
I'm sure we all have to deal with this and I'm about out of ideas so I thought I'd start a thread and get some more input. My wife's family insists on exchanging names for Christmas every year. We've got a price range of $20-30USD and the last few years I've struggled to put out ideas for...
So I posted to this thread about what my dream setup would be and it got me thinking. My Mom passed away in September 2015, three weeks after her 60th birthday, after being diagnosed with stage 4 lung and brain cancer a month earlier. My Mom and Dad both had heart attacks in their 50s and both...

Until recently, camp cooking for us was sharpening a few sticks and roasting some hot-dogs or sausages over the fire. I do still like that, add some mustard and enjoy! But, I also like good, hardy meals! When I found my Coleman stove, it came with a 8" Lodge cast-iron pan which I've been...

Virginia Mountain Amateur Radio Club test sessions are now showing on the Laurel calendar. If anyone in the area is interested in taking the test, just contact Janet and get it set up! Our meetings are the first Monday of each month at 6:30pm, but the test are...
