    What is your rigs name

I nicknamed mine Christine......that bitch has tried to kill me several times. The funniest time was in the gas station. I was filling up with gas and opened the hatch to get some gear out of the back. One of the hatch nitrogen springs popped off. The hatch came down so hard it slammed my...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Down the rabbit hole I noticed a couple of bad spots in the paint on the roof where the paint was peeling and it was rusting underneath. I spent an afternoon sanding the roof and priming it. From that vantage point I noticed the start of some issues with the hood. So I ended up spending a few...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

I noticed the roof of my Cherokee was having paint issues. I spent a couple of hours sanding it down. The jeep is blue. I walked into the house and my wife started laughing. She called me Papa Smurf, since I was blue all over, especially my hair and it was standing straight up. I get no...

I know it doesn't matter what I drive...

People think they have to have the expensive rig before they can go and have fun. I had more fun rock crawling when I had a bone stock Cherokee. The key is to get out and go. Don't get so wrapped up in buying all the toys and then not be able to afford to actually take off work and go. I...

    Tip for mounting high lift

If you check out the shock isolated off road swivel hitch in my build thread for my off road teardrop, you will see that I used hockey pucks for the isolation. They are great building blocks for a bunch of things.

OB Approved Introduction to Recovery equipment

Thanks for the write up. In order of purchase priority I would go with a good strap with at least 20k pounds strength, not a cheap Harbor Freight. Followed by a good shovel. In the hands of a skilled operator, stretchy straps are good but neophytes tend to go crazy and I have seen several bad...

    Pinstripe removal San Diego

It will really help your resale value. Some are do it your self jobs. I saw an advertisement on Directv. That stuff was self healing. If you scratch it, park it in the sun or use a heat gun and the scratches disappear.

    Lets see some trail photos!

The Buena Vista, Colorado area has enough trails to keep you busy for a week. Most are drop dead beautiful with a minimum of tourist traffic. Here is a rougher trail I love in the area called Old Chinaman's

My DIY rear tire/fuel carrier using stock bumper

Nice work. Just a heads up....you might want to get a signed liability release when you sell them. If the vehicle gets rear ended, it may rupture a gas can and you wouldn't want to get sued. You know how people are these days.

Have you ever thought about using some of the clear body wrap films to protect from scratches?

    Tip for mounting high lift

Remember the old saying "necessity is the mother of invention"???? My version is "necessity is a mother".

    Tip for mounting high lift

I have seen people hang up their rack and rip it off the vehicle with significant damage. Your point is something people should think about. The hockey puck solution works well for many things such as Mat tracks.

    Air Lockers

Just a point of information. Adding a air locker or Detroit will necessitate a new gear setup. At many shops, they won't re-setup existing gears. That means it can cost upwards to $500 just for labor per axle. Add gears and locker and you are up around $1700 an axle for an air locker. A...

    Air Lockers

Lockers can be very helpful in a bad situation. Not all lockers are air driven. Some are electric and some are just automatic. There is even a class of lockers, more commonly available on new vehicles, called limited slip lockers. Air lockers have a weakness. The air lines are prone to...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

You guys make me jealous. I am stuck at home working the internet for a new contract. I hate to spend any money until I know where my next job is. The bummer is that the snow is building up in the high country.

    Fly Fishing

The first winter there, it hit -62F. We had over 200 inches of snow. It was quite a shock, having grown up in the desert of Texas.

    Fly Fishing

You went with a quarter mile of our ranch. When you head out of Walden towards Steamboat, you go about 12 miles on a south west heading before cresting a very large ridge and then head due south. All of that ridge to the west was our BLM land and all the bottom land to the east for several...
