Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Yeah, I can't remember ever having a mosquito problem East of the mountains. It's tinder dry most of the time out there.
Work is sending me on the road next Monday, so looks like my decision is made for me. Have fun!

Welcome
Norcal or Socal? Coast or inland... Region will matter, enforcement often varies a lot. I've never had any warning about my lights, but I know opinion on that isn't uniform, and I haven't been pulled over in my rig yet.
Sorry I couldn't make it. The road from Bowman to 20 has a bridge out, it didn't seem like a good idea to do it twice to make the run.

Are you going to be on FRS or Ham in case I'm trying to raise you? My plan right now is to head to Bowman Lake tomorrow and set up camp there. My one big worry is that it will be so crowded I can't leave the site on Saturday morning for risk I'll lose my spot.

You don't have to be right on the center line to see totality - from the Oregon map, it looks like as long as you're a bit north of Redmond (which is the next town above Bend), you'll see it. "The path of totality is a relatively thin ribbon, around 70 miles wide, that will cross the U.S. from...
I'm thinking about driving up from SF to Bend to see the total eclipse on August 21. Is anyone else going up that way? Apparently Oregon is expecting so many visitors they've authorized deploying the national guard...
Since we are fine primitive camping I've been thinking about avoiding any...
I wear Keen Hiking boots. Good sticky rubber for grip on rocks and shake, waterproof and a toe cap for some extra protection.
