I worry about that too, I drive the diesel wrangler and it's been discontinued. I plan to keep it as long as I can, but hope they can still do repairs on it done the line. They still make the engine for trucks I believe.

On an overland trip, my dogs will always be with me. I carry a pocket knife on me daily. Also have a spear around my camp, but not sure if it's non-lethal. It's extremely sharp and could easily hit an artery.

Made a rookie mistake and didn't camp with proper gear. Summer tent and summer bag, in Utah at -14°f. Barely slept and fingers weren't moving. Now I have a much better bag, slightly better tent, insulated underwear, warm gloves, wool socks, and a heated blanket. It draws about 50 - 75 watts...

Ceramic probably won't help against pin striping. I've thought about wrapping, but seen ones that have been on trails and it tears it. The best thing I've seen for protection against Bush and branches is those magnetic armor you slap on the panels. Downside is they don't make them for all...
