    OB Overlanding Orientation Course

In the house, up the stairs. I think everyone should know the basics- they serve as the foundation for nav. I can make the difference between a good day, and a really bad day. Also dont forget the vertical navigation bit. Shiny side up, rubber side down as much as possible. XD

    Dual battery questions

Relay, solenoid, same function really. I think you can get 50-60A relays these days. Id start with calculating your needs, then leave a buffer for upgrades then watch the visa card cower in fear!

2007 Honda Pilot Off Road Build

Contrary to popular belief, some hondas are magical offroad. I really love this element. I think the honda guys need more love.

    Dash Cam

I run the Garmin 55w in my vehicles. They were in a 2 pack at Costco, so I got two. But I didnt bother hardwiring it in because it only draws 150-500mAh. In other words, wont kill my battery even if left on. Good camera, but some of the alerts like th lane detection, foreward collision...

    Dual battery questions

Absolutely. I have seen people use old ford solenoids wired into the ignition hot wire. So when the ignition goes hot, both batteries are linked. When off, batteries are separated. Not sure about relays but I imagine something similar would work just fine.

Loving the CF-17. If i had more interior space I would consider re-lifing it to do that.

    Dual battery questions

Of course this will all depend on your plan and current set up. For this Im just going to assume you currently have a single battery set up, Lead/acid. 1. Lithium batteries are good, but they do not handle temperature differences well. In a toasty engine bay they will have a shorter lifespan...

    Diesel Engine troubles

little tricky for a lot of us as we weren't lucky enough to get the diesel in our country. Going from a pretty rough memory, Id check your pinion angle. 4th gear in one of those high speed-high power situations before going to 5th, which is pretty much a cruising gear. Short of that, when it...

Kayaks - Inflatable, Rigid, Folding. . . whaddya have and how do ya like it?

50 lbs of weight on a kayak is pretty heavy but for a two seater and the ability to store it easily, its worth it.

    What is your rigs name

"Shiro" Japanese for white, because allthough she is a ford, it has a Mazda L5-VE, and thus a heart from Japan. Well. Mexico. Probably. Bah! It's name is Shiro because I thought it was neat.

Jeep TJ - Daily Driver / Adventure Rig

And if i'm right, unlimited's have a higher cargo rating, dont they? Gotta think back to my TJ. It was a while ago. It was a 1998 Sahara I think... Key word.. Think. I know it had the 4.0 and 5 speed. Jeeps squeak, and they rattle. The ride isnt great and they are noisy, and eat gas. But. It...

    GVWR?

CAT Scales are a great thing. Depending on your rig, you may have GAWR's (Axle) to consider in your calculations. That being said, there are ways to lighten a vehicle. But it will never change the sticker. Aluminum skidplates and armor might be something to look into. Polycarbonate cases...

    GVWR?

To add a bit to this. In Ontario your claim can be denied for overloading, however the onus of proof is on the insurance company. Which takes time and money and not something they are interested in as its extremely hard to prove in court. For the Ontario folks, some bits to chew on: HTA S.43...

    Too complicated /too expensive

Problems are the greatest thing for creation. Everyone has a problems when it comes to overlanding. How do I mount this? How can I carry this? How do I recover this? You can purchase a solution to your problem. And if it fits your means, that's fine. But if the solution doesn't exist for...

Passengers and Dogs and Gear, Oh My!

With the JKUR, its kind of difficult to add roof rails to the removable roof- depending what variant of roof you have, and you may loose the ability to remove separate panels if you go with a full length option. This is part of why the body mount bar rails are the common style. What I have seen...

    Trading in f150..

I went from fullsized to "compact". One thing I love is the width. Its narrower and easier to maneuver around trails, trees, etc as well as better baseline fuel economy. So while you loose interior space, you gain maneuverability. I also went across classes to an CUV from a Full Sized Pickup...
