Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Unfortunately my F&P Icon + has a 120v plug hardwired in.. So I just use a charged up 12v Deep cycle in the back of the rig and a 400w inverter. I switch it to airplane mode, which shuts off the humidifer, heated hose and the spy radio. Seems to work ok.
Other issues I know of personally are with the scepter cans, they only have so long of a service life before the plastic degrades. I think its 10 years off the top of my head. Which might be fine but if youre buying them from a surplus store they might already be beyond thier factory life, not...
I havent got a pic yet of my setup because its winter. But I usually sleep in the back of the ranger. 6 foot bed, its a little tight, but with the cap open its alright. I just need to finish removing the bed slide and that will make it a lot easier.
But its just a cap with a cot thrown in the...
Happens often here in the great white north. Someone will spin out land in the ditch during winter. They find the car, and usually the body sevral klicks away...
Today was the day of trials. Time to see where the wee 2wd ranger can take me in her current form.
Put her up on an angle to see just how high the front end can go before the tail drags. Not bad.
Then I found a little path. Time to do a shakeout. But honestly. More like. Hey! What's down...
Tough call. But just to throw a wrench into your situation, all you'd need is roof racks and you can toss the kayak up there.. I have 5 kayaks I load onto my wee ford ranger. Id think you could put 2 on top of a 4 runner. You could pick up a "cheap" 2nd hand 4 runner for overlanding and maybe a...
I dont know much about austrailia, but I think the general guidelines still apply, I happen to work at an air base with a search and rescue outfit.
Tell people where youre going and how long you expect to be. A little map or GRID reference will help SAR folks to find you.
Always bring basics...
Recovery strap. Up here we got a store called princess auto, I imagine you got the same, but get a 10,000lb recovery strap and a buddy with a tow point and sometimes you can save yourself a monster tow truck fee if you dont have a winch. And if the budget/space allows a manual come along with...
After a ton of profanity it's installed. One trailer hitch. Bolted directly to the frame and really one of the first mods as it came with grade 6 bolts.
Nope. Upgraded those to grade 8 bolts. With four of them, that should provide a good amount of shear strength.
But I've also noticed a fair...
Yep she is a good little truck. I know some parts are wearing out. But as they die I'll upgrade. But next up will be a trailer hitch for a rear recovery point and if I can swing it front hooks from a 4x4 model.
A manual winch is in the works as well along with some recovery boards.
Hello again OB's,
I used to have a 2017 Ford F150 XL, but sadly she is no more. For my replacement: I bring to you..
My new (ish) 07 Ford Ranger Sport.
The truck has a 3.0 Vulcan engine, 5 speed manual. Sadly no 4wd or locker yet. But thats in the works.
This is her after she got new shoes...
Not a bad idea. As a Canadian I can attest to some weird cold weather effects. It would seem that in addition to dual batteries, the car can sometimes be frightened to run if you scream it it loud enough. 'Start'led if you will.
