  • Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

I'm looking forward to meeting you as I saw your trail choices and we are going to run some of the same trails.

    Xterra Registry

I bought it from Right Channel Radios but I cannot find it on their site.... This is the one they sell now - https://www.rightchannelradios.com/products/adjustable-universal-hood-mount

Street Tire PSI When Off Road

Definitely. With lower profile tires, airing down increases the risk of rim damage, popping a bead off the rim and pushing dirt and rocks into the bead and degrading it's ability to seal.

    Rock slider construction

A quick Google search turned up these from N Fab - https://www.carid.com/n-fab/rock-rails.html?relationshipId=730427049&childId=76717685&gclid=CIOW67O_m9MCFZBlfgod2cwO7A https://www.realtruck.com/n-fab-harley-bar-rock-sliders/

    Rock slider construction

These are the mounts for my White Knuckle Off Road sliders. Hope these pictures help.... sorry for the mud! The horizontal bolts on the front 2 mounts pass through the frame and the nut goes up against a large .125 thick backing plate.

    Rig sleeping

I can fit a twin sized camping mattress in the back of my X. I pull the rear seat bottoms and leave them at home, then I push the seats forward and tilt them forward and put 8 gal Action Packers in the rear foot wells and a 6 pack of oil between them and it makes a nice flat sleeping platform...

What do you think should be my first Mod?

Skids (all of them), Tires (all 5), Sliders (body protection), Recovery Gear (strap, hitch plug with shackle), Lift (added capability), Portable compressor (gotta air down for safety), Hi Lift and mount (this can get you unstuck), CB (group communication is key). That is a good start and will...

    Hollister Hills 4/2...Sunday

I've been having a heavy vibration at freeway speeds since this run. Pulled the drivers front wheel off and found about a quart of dried mud on the inside of the wheel and behind the spokes. It felt like the wheel weights had fallen off but that mud must have been throwing the balance off.

Question for Nissan Xterra owners equipped with side curtain airbags in their rigs...

The heavy throttle contributed to those firing off. I'm going to start unplugging them again in my 2015.

    Greetings From Santa Cruz, CA

Nice pictures! I was just in that area March 22 - 26th but we did not run the South Park/Pleasant Canyon Loop.... maybe next time! Lippincott Road and MengelPass/Goler Wash were a lot of fun with beautiful scenery and a few trail challenges. Maybe we should try and get an OB gathering in Santa...

Ha, Ha! I was typing my reply when I got the alert that you mentioned me!!! Hilarious!

Question for Nissan Xterra owners equipped with side curtain airbags in their rigs...

I had them deploy in my 2010 Frontier and it cost me about $3500 to repair. Not only do the airbags need to be replaced but so do the seat belts, which lock, and the controller which is a single use unit. There are a lot of plastic interior pieces that get damaged and the headliner also gets...

    NV/CA Monthly Overland Trip

I've done this route in summer and winter and it is a lot of fun either way. There are a few sections that are sketchy with snow and ice on the ground. Sub'd for updates and notification of dates.

    Death Valley 2017 weekend trip

I see you found tire tracks on the Racetrack. When I was there 2 weeks ago I didn't see any..... maybe I just was not in the same area. There have been 3 incidents of people driving out there in the past year.

Reasons to have a arb bumper

Someone was watching over you there! Sorry about your truck but it looks like it did it's job and saved you from serious injury.

    Hollister Hills 4/2...Sunday

Going through my pictures and zooming in on the shot below, I can see that it was bent when we made it to Hector Heights. Maybe the trench you crossed leaving the bottom of Truck Hill did the damage?

    Hollister Hills 4/22-4/23?

Sycamore Camp also has FREE hot showers! Sycamore sits down in a small valley and is protected from the wind much better than the obstacle course camp. Take some alcohol wipes because poison oak is EVERYWHERE and the oil will get on your rig and easily transfer to your skin.

    Hollister Hills 4/2...Sunday

It was great to meet and wheel with you and Tiago, daPitbull.... Here are some pictures. For those of you who wheel at Hollister Hills, take note of the Poison Oak in the last photo. The rain we have had this year has the PO growing at record levels!
