  • Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance this week and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

Garmin ecosystem thoughts.... or stamdalone devices?

Seems like the Tread app has a more complete trail system?

Garmin ecosystem thoughts.... or stamdalone devices?

I don’t even remember what I said lol I do watch them but not on YouTube, they use a bunch of garmin stuff and I want to say I saw them with the Overlander XL. When I saw it I thought it was just a tablet with a cool case and the garmin app. My old inReach mini only has support for Earthmate...

    Warn M15000, No free spool

If it’s free with warmer weather then that won’t be good and you’ll want to take it apart to regrease it.

    Warn M15000, No free spool

They usually say to spool it out a bit. Did you try putting it in free spool then spool (power) out? try in and out, if that doesn’t work try hooking it to something and spool in while in free spool.

Garmin ecosystem thoughts.... or stamdalone devices?

Can’t say I answered anything as it was mostly me blabbing away. I downloaded the tread iPhone app and it’s completely different than Earthmate. Earthmate is more like a paper map where Tread is a map designed for digital use, far easier to see POI’s and actual trails. Now I’m considering a...

    Handhelds or vehicle mounted

I’ve got a ham radio but from my experience, most if not all groups use GMRS even if they have ham radios. Most people don’t want to bother with tests and with mobile GMRS units outputting 40-50 watts it makes more sense to stick with GMRS. I’ve got a few baofengs and they’re hit and miss...

Garmin ecosystem thoughts.... or stamdalone devices?

I recently came across the tread overlander and it looks interesting, would be nice to use that camera up front. Had no idea that it had the ability to control other devices. Could possibly be used as lighting controller or to control other devices on the rig? I use Garmin Earthmate that comes...

Those fancy mapping apps will not save you...

The whole paper vs electronic thing is hilarious. I use electronic maps, some are paper converted to electronic so no difference other than far more convenient. I can look at the entire area or zoom in for more detail and it tells me where I am instantly I’m old enough to remember the days of...

Is this a bug? I can’t use the app when there’s no service.

    Handhelds or vehicle mounted

What do groups in your area use? It’s pointless to buy a GMRS radio if they primarily use ham. Handhelds are great but for distance nothing beats a mobile unit. I ended up getting my ham and GMRS license and ended up with a mobile ham that I use for ham and GMRS there are power limitations to...
