  • Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

    Introduction

Welcome John, nice to have you hear and hopefully we will be reading some stories of how your experience comes along.

Freespirit Recreation (FSR) - 55" Evolution Issues

It's such a shame you had such a bad experience. Definitely not a nice thing. I'd add Off Road Tents to the list of reputable companies helping customers. They are dealers from plenty of brands, but their customer service is top nocth.

What is your preferred shelter? (Rooftop Tent vs Ground Tent vs Etc...)

Roof top tents by far. Ever since I got mine I've never looked back. as I keep saying, now I can do trips with my gf, which I otherwise wouldn't be able to do with a ground tent. We both sleep really well in the RTT, plus she really appreciates having an annex to change, etc.

    Best Practices -- Wet RTT

Been camping with my RTT for quite a while now. Even when it gets really humid and can rain a lot. If it's raining when we need to close it, I do my best to use a towel to try and dry some of the excess rain. Close it even when wet. Then the moment I get to a dry area where it isn't raining, i...

Rhino Roof rack lighting choices on a Jeep Wrangler

I have a large Cali Raised LED light bar right below my Front Runner slimline II. It does get a bit noisy, a whistling noise. What I did, was put a rubber channel between the gap left below the bar and the roof. It has helped reduce the noise a lot, but there is still some. I think noise is...

Welcome! That's a very nice awning room there, I like the lights touch. do you use inflatable mattresses to live there?

    Before you Buy Rooftop Tent

I love my RTT honestly, and so does my gf who didn't go camping before I had one. The comfort at night is unbeatable. Sure, does take time to set up and pack down, but ground tents are an even bigger pain to pack down, especially if you're hungover and it's wet. Having to bend down all the time...

Where to put the weight? Rear bumper mounts vs Roof Rack

Shoot, can't speak from experience with a Jeep, BUT I have an Armada, with a Slimline roof rack and a tent. It's very heavy, I also got an OME suspension and changed the tires for bigger ones. It got quite heavy, so I drifted away from getting a front or rear bumper. But that's me, as I do feel...

Sleeping Pads What do you use? Looking....

Exped Megamat! But I also have to say, the mattress inside my RTT is enough for me.

    Sedona/ Grand Canyon

I've done a similar trip, back in April 2019. If you have the chance, you should also visit a few places such as Tonto National Park (not that far from Sedona). In Sedona there aren't many dispersed camping spots, at least not that we found, so we had to end up sleeping at an RV park. It's a...

What justifies the expense for a rooftop tent?

For me it's all about comfort and access. I can camp over my vehicle wherever I am, which is efficient. And then there is comfort, I sleep like a baby, whilst when I'm ground camping I don't. I do lot's of hiking trips, that means camping in the middle for a mountain, it's beautiful but I sleep...

What about overland in South America?

Not exactly South America, but Costa Rica is a great, great place for overlanding. full of beaches, national parks, rivers, roads, etc. It doesn't have that many camping spots, but plenty of virgin beaches where you can park, camp and stay for a few days. I'm originally from there, have done it...

    White or amber lights?

Just my two cents: I have both, amber pods and an LED light bar (flood & spot). Honestly, the amber pods have worked well when it's raining and foggy, but not great. The LEd white light is not safe when raining, there's too much reflection and it was actually giving me a hard time to properly...

    We have HEAT ☀️

I second this, you are right. propane tanks should rather be stored outside the vehicle. Safety comes first.

    New tire recommendations

I personally own the BF Goodrich AT KO2, I absolutely love them. They have performed very well on dirt trails, muddy roads, crossing rivers, dry trails, you name it. They are not as noisy as the former MTs I had, and I just feel that as of today, from the tires I have tested, they are the best...
