Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Definitely don't recommend trying to smuggle guns through Canada either. Jail time and deportation for life is the likely result.
If anyone does show up at the border with their guns accidentally - ie, took a wrong turn and didn't mean to come to the border - just declare all firearms to the...
No, it's not as bad as England, but if our clown prince PM gets re-elected in October, it surely will be.
What most people do is just ship their restricted or prohibited firearms to Alaska via Fedex or whatever, and transit through with their non-restricted stuff documented on the temp license...
After driving it to and from work, I Jacked it up with the new-to-me jack stands I bought off FB Marketplace for $10, crawled underneath to start measuring and thinking about how to build a skid plate for the carrier bearing. While I was at it, I noticed that the safety hangers and the carrier...
That's an awesome console. I did something similar with mine by using a 20mm mortar can bolted down in place of the fold down table the CR-V comes with.
I've never seen anyone make a console by using the cans sideways, though - very clever.
This is why I'm fairly certain that if I ever did buy a new or almost new rig, I would spring for top level ceramic coating. If you're already spending 30-50k on a vehicle, what's another 2k to make the paintwork essentially bulletproof and totally hydrophobic?
How good of a vehicle could you get for that $5000? Is there an option to sell it or trade it in to get something better? 5000 seems awfully high for 1 year's worth of maintenance. I don't think I've even spent $1200 on mine, and that's including a new radiator installed, building a roof rack...
Yeah, I wish my CR-V had low range too. The cool thing is that the lowest two gears are actually extra-low, so they have more engine braking than the equivalent Civic, which is based on the same platform. It helps significantly, but low range would be preferable.
You bring up a good point. The phrase that comes to my mind as I read what you're writing is "diminishing returns." In my mind, I try to strike a balance between economy and diminishing returns. The thing about my particular vehicle is that it has a lot going for it in this department. The...
One word: Honda.
In all seriousness, though, yeah there comes a point where the vehicle is just getting so long in the tooth that it's having so many costly problems that you might as well sell or scrap it and buy something newer that has a solid track record of reliability. I plan to spend...
Well, I actually made the trip today. Went all the way up to Tipella, the little first nations villages just past the end of Harrison lake. I started my day by driving up to Ten Mile Bay. The entrance was a fun little technical trail that opens to an amazing wild camp spot. I launched my ill...
The issue is that you have to pass through a heck of a lot of Canada to get to Alaska.
Ironically, it's actually much easier to get a long gun into Canada than it is to get it out of the USA. Import is a $25 fee for a temporary license, which is a one page form, and as long as you have what is...
If you're putting it on the back, position 1. If you like the side better, go with 3. I put mine on the side, pretty much exactly where you're showing it.
Ray is one of our very own at OB , as a matter of fact. Wonderful family, and I'm pleased to say, friends of ours. They organize BC Overland Rally every year.
