Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
I’ve driven and rode in a lot of vehicles, (I work in the automotive industry), and the best riding vehicle capable of hitting some dirt that I’ve come across is a 5th generation (current)Toyota 4Runner. Very smooth ride on pavement and on dirt. You also get plenty of room, tons of aftermarket...
I had a great time too! The dumpster crew sure put some work in! I was so busy all day, I didn’t take any pictures! Just one camp picture. I can’t wait for the next one!
The new frontier actually looks pretty good. Automakers seem to have been competing with each other to make the ugliest truck lately. My local dealer has about a dozen on the lot, which really surprised me, all the new car lots are empty. The Chevy dealer next door has 7 new cars total.
I’m a Toyota guy, and an old Toyota guy, (I have a 1980 4x4 pickup, and a 1985 4Runner) but I’d say go with the Ford. A 3.slow with 200k is asking for trouble. I’ve had 3 2nd gen 4Runners, and all blew head gaskets. One at 150k, one at 210k, and one at 240k. They are good looking vehicles, but...
Don’t be afraid of an old vehicle! (2005 isn’t old!) I have a 1980 Toyota pickup, (that’s old!) that I’ve been driving for years, and for the most part, it’s been good. Yes, you will need to do maintenance, but that’s still cheaper than a payment on a new vehicle. My truck has almost every...
I wouldn’t try it in a stock Compass. Last time I went through the stock vehicles all ended up at least scraping and some damaging their rocker panels. Those included 4Runners, and an FJ Cruiser. That being said, my trip was 2 years ago, and conditions may have changed. Also, I would strongly...
The trail was so steep, I had to be the monkey in the middle, being towed from the front for the uphills, and the back on the downhills! Thankfully the people in this group are really amazing, and went out of their way to help get me off the mountain and back home. I’m very grateful. The tow...
I’ve wanted a 1985 4Runner since 1985! It’s my dream rig! That being said, it’s been more nightmare lately. It decided to die halfway up the trail to Coyote Flats, and needed to be towed down. That was better than any roller coaster ever! It’s still down, but it will e back, better than ever!
Hi, and welcome! Most of the time, there aren’t any fees, we have camped at campgrounds where everyone paid for their own sites, and we stayed at a group campground where we divided up the fee among those who camped. As for the food, mainly it’s everyone doing their own. Hope to see you out there!
The Nissan is good, and I’m waiting for the tow truck now. It was a very fun trip in spite of the problems. I want to thank everyone for their help, this is an amazing group of people. I can’t express how grateful I am for all the help!
I bought my 1980 Toyota pickup 17 years ago (wow, it doesn’t seem that long!), with around 46,000 miles. It’s at around 98,000 miles now, and has held up pretty well.
I bought my 1985 Toyota 4Runner a year ago May with around 195,000 and it’s at around 203,000 now. Took a while to get it...
