Hello Everyone!

I'm Derek from North Idaho, and I drive a 2004 Jeep Wrangler LJ. Since we make off-roading and overlanding a family affair, my wife pilots our 2008 Land Rover LR3 with plenty of room between the rigs for our 3 kids. We love camping and adventure and look forward to connecting with some of ya'll and seeing you on the trail!

Hello All,

My names Shawn and I live outside of Tri Cities WA. Current rig is a 2015 Taco TRD Pro, wild top truck cap, solar, OME suspension. I am somewhere between a novice and a pro, I camp almost once a month but most of that is with my kids Scout troop so not much "overlanding" with them. I am also a member of Veteran Overland.

Welcome Shawn!

Check out our upcoming trips:

Hello all! My name is Dave and I’m a 52 year old brand new overlander. Rig is a 2010 Toyota 4Runner. I live in the Portland Oregon area. Looking forward to learning and connecting. Planning on doing the ORBDR in July.
Welcome Dave!

Were you able to check out the ORBDR?

I used to live in PDX and recently moved back out west to eastern WA.

The ORBDR is high on my list - what’d you think of it?

Hello and Nice to meet you!

I'm Greg, soon to be 23, I live in north Finland (Close to artic circle)
I've just learned the term "Overlanding" but I have done it with my family as child numerous times. Guess I'm just a little after Novice :)
I don't have a car but I plan on getting one relatively soon!
Me and my partner have a crazy plan we are dead set on doing in over 3 years - Finland to Japan by car! I came here seeking for information and the help of people who have much more experience than me :) I'm still not completely familiar with the platform but, would anyone know where I could post the details of the trip we have already planned? Unless here is fine of course...
Thank you for your help!
Welcome Greg!

What an amazing vision you have to travel from Finland to Japan. I spent a couple weeks in Japan many years ago and it remains one of the best trips I’ve ever taken.

How’s the trip planning going?

Hello everyone!

New(ish) member with an account I created forever ago. Hoping to get more involved in the overland community as a lot of my travels have been more solo, and things are always nice with friends. I live in Oakland, CA.

I started meddling with Jeeps about 8 or 9 years ago, and went through a TJ and LJ I largely built myself.

The jeeps were nice and I really built them into something cool (Looking at that LJ I still am drooling a bit), but I realized I didn't like rock crawling so much, and wanted something more in tune to long highway travel and spending multiple nights off the grid. Driving up 80 in a 20 year old Jeep with big tires isn't the most relaxing experience and you quickly realize why you see so many trailers in Moab.

So in 2019 I brought a gently used Chevy Colorado ZR2 diesel.

I ran this setup for a couple of years taking some memorable trips to Death Valley, and lots of local trips around Mendocino National Forest. Living in the Bay and not wanting to leave anything in my vehicle I felt I was always taking things in and out of the truck and just planning for a trip was exhausting.

Sometime during the pandemic, I decided I wanted to get into the Roof Top Tent game, with fresh Bush Company gear from CVT (CVT had just started importing it and putting on their own branding) and of course some bling like bumper and lights because you're not a true overland without a bunch of bolt on parts slapped on. I will say I really enjoyed the RTT, the setup was easy, and it allowed for many more trips over the course of a few years. However, how could I make this even more fancy?

I decided that wasn't enough because who really knows when to stop. So I purchased and had an Alucab Canopy Camper and had it built out. Now, I will say, even with my self deprecating humor, that this builds awesome. It's been on my rig since 2022 and it's just so easy to do trips, everything lives in the truck all the time and I really think it is perfection for me on a midsize truck (I've probably spent around 60-70 nights in it at this point)

Oh and somewhere along the way, I decided to take a sabbatical from work, buy a expensive van and #vanlife living in it around the US/Canada for 4 months with my partner and dog.

(Look at all that bling!!!) -- but we sold it.

Nowadays I'm just down to the truck and the alucab and even though its about 7 years old at this point still planning on plenty more adventures!
