    Need some 2m/70cm transceiver help

Obviously your not familiar with the seat on a Full Sized Bronco… they are fold and tumble to allow access to the rear passenger compartment. So under the seat mounting isn’t an option. i have an APRS tranciever I built. Problem is it only works on one frequency. I only mentioned the 500...

    Need some 2m/70cm transceiver help

For my base station a dedicated Packet Radio is an option, and one I would rather do, and no need for APRS at the QTH. However I’m the road I’m trying to reduce radios… I still have the 7100 (I’ll be getting it back in a few months) which I would like to not have to use for packet and finding...

    Need some 2m/70cm transceiver help

My Icom IC-7100 lost its magic smoke and I’m sending it in for repair as we speak. But I need an excellent 2m/70cm transceiver that can easily connect to a TNC and can do APRS out of the box. My first choice was the Kenwood TM-710g, but it’s been discontinued for a while now. I’m not...

    Newbie comms questions (HAM/GMRS/APRS)

GMRS itself is a very basic radio, just slightly more advanced than CB. The difference is privacy tones and repeater usage.. basically just need to turn the radio on, time the volume up select the channel and hit the PTT if the frequency is clear of people talking.

    Newbie comms questions (HAM/GMRS/APRS)

No software needed, but CHIRP would give you advanced settings as well as repeater programming. To turn on the unit, just twist the volume knob clockwise to the desired volume level. The up/down triangles change the Chanel, the A/B select which VFO you are talking on and which on you are...

Being in the Snake River Valley… March is a crap shoot for a trip in the Lewiston/Clarkston area… while not much snow, March/April is the cold rainy season at the lower elevations, and getting higher in elevation the snow still flies into July at times. @PapaDave thanks for hosting these...

    Why Ham over GMRS?

GMRS is only good for voice line of sight communication, has a range of 20 miles or less without repeaters. Amateur Radio on the other hand can do so much more than just talk to the rig behind you. You can send position reports, emails, pictures, and talk around the world without using a...
