Reaver's 03 Xterra XE "Gamora" build thread

Last year was fun. I had a blast hiking around the canyon lands. I can’t wait to go back!!! You (plural Reavers) and Dave are going to have a good time. Be looking for a message end of June first of July wanting to head into the Saw Tooth’s at the end of summer beginning of fall.

Reaver's 03 Xterra XE "Gamora" build thread

Dude; Brian!!! Gamora is looking “mean” now. I was just thinking of you and @David H as we head into the Memorial Day Weekend. First Memorial Day in over 15 years I won’t be attacking a trail or setting up a tent. Super bummed, but anxiously awaiting adventure reports. However there will be...

    Friday Night HAM Radio NET

Yes we could. I’ll look into seeing what this would take.

    Handheld or Permanent HAM?

I only half agree. A 5 watt transceiver is going to be a disappointment when traveling alone and needing help. Get as much radio as you can afford. For under $200 a person can get a simple easy to use 80w transceiver and a 5/8 wave mobile antenna. It may not be a fancy transceiver with a TNC...

No, it’s not still active. We didn’t have enough interest for net control or participation.

    Newbie comms questions (HAM/GMRS/APRS)

Yes, that is why the IC7100 is the better choice.

    Newbie comms questions (HAM/GMRS/APRS)

I have both of them. And unless you’re planning to do POTA (which is why I got the 891) would actually chose the IC7100 for more power and better ECOMs. Also the IC7100 is a lot easier to use than the 891.

    Newbie comms questions (HAM/GMRS/APRS)

Google didn’t fail you, specs aren’t being released until closer to the release date of the radio.

Does anyone here uses digital HAM radio?

I’m in agreement with everything @Dilldog said. digital voice is a fun service to play around with, it not practical for Overlanding.

    Newbie comms questions (HAM/GMRS/APRS)

https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/need-some-2m-70cm-transceiver-help.45766/ As you will notice, I was aware the day after I posted that there is a new radio coming out by Yasue, but it’s not a FTM-400XDR replacement.
