I'm often asked what I carry in my kits so I wrote it down and made it a PDF so anyone can print it out. I recommend printing copies of what is in your kits and keeping them easily accessible so you don't have to hunt through your kit to see if you have that one thing you need. As I have Jedi...
Let’s talk. I’m in Livermore and have installed a few of these on my own rigs. I also will be selling a National Luna split charge system soon so this might work out. I’ll PM you.

Securing the C spine is an evolving practice. Some places still require it for all trauma patients while others have very specific criteria. Current consensus is that if the person can get themselves out (self extricate) then no collar needed. As for the collar, you have to weigh how long they...
Bouncer,
Exactly my position on training which is why I am going to start getting the First Aid section up to speed with training videos and holding free in person classes. Will you get a certificate? Nope. Does anyone check for that in an emergency before letting you care for them? Nope. Better...
I have used the X jack in sand, worked perfectly. I have a hi lift and use it when needed on my Defender but have also watched my truck fall off of it when the jack slid. Fortunately I was not under it and the rotor just stuck in the soft dirt. I carry the Safe Jack system for the Defender and...
Mendocino NF is pretty solid in the winter. Especially with the lack of rain recently. Peaks about 6000 feet but lots of trails below that. Depending on when you go I might be able to join you. I’ve got recovery gear.
This is from a different thread but the message is the same.
I’ve gone through all kinds of kits. Training is key. In regards to equipment, you need 3 kits in my opinion. I carry a hard sided pelican EMS case for "basecamp" needs. Stays on the roof rack. This contains things for headaches...
Yes, keeping the truck lifted adds stress to the suspension and driveline(at least I’m pretty sure about the driveline). But people do it and seem ok. For us it was a matter of my wife didn’t want to lift groceries into the truck and our little kiddos would have had a harder time getting in...
There are a few options for peace of mind with the LR3/4’s in regards to off roading. A company out of Australia, Green Oval Experience, has lift rods that allow for stock height, lift, and emergency lift height. Yup, 3 position lift rod. It was perfect for me as the LR is my wife’s DD and she...
That sucks. Been there done that got the shirt. My rig is an old Land Rover Defender 110, had to upgrade my AAA membership for the long tows. I’m taking my wife’s DD (LR4) on this one. Hopefully next time!!
Not that often. Have led a few trips through the lower portion. Enter at Upper Lake and exit by Willows. The route is about 4 hours total off road w some good spots to camp along the way.
I need to get out so I’m heading to the Mendo NF this weekend. Want to leave after work Friday and come home Sunday. No set destination. Might head up M3 and hit some of the sites I’ve been to before or ?? I was just up there the other day for a day trip with some OB folks. Trail was perfect, a...
Typically when I’ve lead groups to the Mendo NF for the Nor Cal Land Rover Club we met at the REI in Santa Rosa. It allowed people to grab that last minute gear before a trip. Granted this is only a day trip but it was a good place north of the bay for everyone to meet up. Just a suggestion.
I might be down w a day trip. I’m in Livermore. Might have my kids, 4 & 6 but they are well travelled off roaders. I’ll keep an eye on this thread.
Chris
I was planning a trip there on the same day but leaving from the Bay Area 1/6 and staying through 1/10. I won’t be able to make the 0800 start but might meet up with you later in the day. I’ll keep an eye on this thread.
Chris
If you stand on the sides then yes, you can stand on them. The centers will flex. At 6’2” 225 I can stand on mine and love them. I’ve been through almost all the storage boxes, these are my favorite.
