Need help from Patriot Camper owners in California

The VINs do have a code and format, so they need to conform to a standard. So I guess anyone can make their own VIN as long as it conforms to the standard. But this already has a conforming VIN. I'm just wondering if I need to go through a CHP inspection and how they know if I paid my sales...

    Patriot Campers

Have you had it out in much wind? We seem to camp a lot where high winds are a problem. Wondering how the awning holds up. I hear the tent is super solid, but noisy, in wind. Haven't heard much about the awning.

In honor of “Sheltering in Place” post up you favorite camp photo!

I've had apartments smaller than your awning room.

    batteries and charging

I would do the 2x100Ah. A bit more money, but might be negligible once you get into fabricating new boxes and any unforeseen problems related to the 1x200Ah. Biggest weight savings, which can also pay you back in other ways.

    Patriot Campers

No Webasto. I'll get a Little Buddy tent heater for when we're awake, and good down bags for when we're asleep. The Webasto looks interesting. But didn't seem like it was $5k kind of cool. I was thinking the same as you on the battery. But if I'm going to invest that kind of money down the...

    Patriot Campers

Did you option for the lithium battery upgrade? I thought the price sounded ridiculous. But now I'm thinking it might be worth it. Everyone keeps telling me it is.

    batteries and charging

I'm not sure about the specs. Waiting for the manufacturer to get back to me. The stock is a 2x150Ah gel battery. The upgrade I believe is a 200Ah lithium. It's all out of Australia.

    batteries and charging

I'm ordering a camping trailer which comes with 2x150Ah AGM. There is an option to upgrade to lithium but it's a $3k upgrade. I didn't think it was worth it but now I'm reconsidering. I still have the option to order the trailer with the lithium. Starting to think it might be worth the extra...

Has anyone mounted a bladder tank for water under their roof rack?

Has anyone mounted a bladder tank for water under their roof rack?

BTW, 20 gallons is a LOT of water. We usually can get by several days with a 7 gallon jug and have plenty left over. If you can, have a smaller jerry can and refill it whenever you get a chance. It will probably be just easier all the way around. Unless you’re really going far off the grid...

Has anyone mounted a bladder tank for water under their roof rack?

The more I think about it, the more I see it as a terrible idea. The water sloshing around in the tank will increase the torque and force of the weight shifting around. I wouldn’t do it. Find another place for the water. You should put on the roof whatever you had planned to have in the back...

Has anyone mounted a bladder tank for water under their roof rack?

You would likely exceed the rating of any factory rack. I know you said you plan to install it under the rack. But there are other options depending on your budget and setup. There are some hitch mounted storage options which allow for easy storage of rotopacks and other items. Rigd makes...

Has anyone mounted a bladder tank for water under their roof rack?

It depends on how big the tank will be. A small tank, like those in the solar showers is fine. But if you're talking about a large tank, then I don't think you would want that much weight that high on the vehicle. Most builds have the water as low as possible because you want your center of...

    Overland Trailers

I know where that spot it. The wind can get whipping in the afternoons. Have you any experience with the wind walls? If so. how do they hold up? Steaking down tents and guy lines is a challenge in that area with nothing but granite slabs everywhere.

    Patriot Campers

I felt the same way. We were between the Turtleback or the Patriot. The Opus also was interesting, but just too big. So once we had it narrowed down to the Turtleback or the Patriot, our only resource was online photos and videos. They really seemed comperable but the Turtleback was...

Need help from Patriot Camper owners in California

So I'm planning to pick up my Patriot X1 at the end of summer. What do I need to know about registering it and paying sales tax on it? The dealer won't be collecting taxes, so it will be my responsibility to pay the taxes and get it registered. Does California require a CHP inspection before...
