Welp. I started with a Midland GMRS in the truck. Still haven't turned it on as I have no one to talk to, but there it is. Finally got a Yaesu400 to talk to the truck in front of me as that is what folks seem to use here in CA. I use a Zoleo to send a location check in each night at camp, and to...
I just signed up but I am nursing a sprained Achilles tendon. I went to Black Rock desert with it and it pushed the skinny pedal fine. I have been through the area a few times and I now have a wee chainsaw. My truck gets worked on next week and I will want to run it. Have to show Gary my awning lol.
I went to Mt Patterson by myself last year in mid July - an excellent trip.
Sadly I won't be able to make this trip, but I recommend it.

fwiw I have a zoleo, but I only have a minimal account to do check ins, and can use it for an emergency, as I also do a lot of solo. My zoleo is swlands@zoleo.com, but please don't use it except in an emergency. I think I get 20 messages a month or the bill goes up. Talk here or use...
I did a lot of solo last year and loved it. Went for a week without seeing a soul - I just went bush and base camped by myself. I am very comfortable being alone in the wild. Indeed I need time alone - it isn't the same even with just one other person.
I have a 2020 4Runner, Icon stage 6...
I sleep alone and I have a jackery and the cpap just sitting on the mattress. I have never had an issue. I sleep way better in my roofnest than I do at home.

swlands = Stephen Williams that used to have a landscaping business. I have the email and now the number plate. I am retired, raised in New Zealand son of a forester and worked as a botanist and forester in New Zealand spending months in wilderness. My wife died 10 years ago so I looked after...
Do you have family? I removed the back seats as while it is my only vehicle I am retired and single. Mine is now a 2 seater vehicle.
You need to tell us a lot more about how you will use it. My situation is not that common so my advice would probably not meet your needs.
I see Amazon has a variety of magnetic paper towel holders. I am considering this one as I can mount it vertically. It also has some rubber backing - maybe I could stick it to my vehicle. I see Amazon is very thoughtfully offering installation for $125
I was there by myself last May and my America the Beautiful pass got free parking. The place was packed - I parked on the side of the road as the lot was overflowing. Still worth the visit.
Huh. I have my stove screwed down, but wanted to make it easily removable so I can cook away from the vehicle. I was thinking to use wing bolts, but I happen to have a roll of velcro on hand and this sounds like a worthy experiment. Thanks for thr idea.
Can this thread get the word "Cancelled" removed?
I get update emails that headline the event is "Cancelled", which ain't so. So far. Could be, though.
I am also a newbie, and I drive a 4Runner.
However I thought this YouTube from Australia was really helpful. What leaps off the page is the stopping distance on the highway is MUCH greater with 35" tires, and road handling is much worse. Plus they need regearing on my 4Runner = $$$. I have BFG...
In a statistics class in New Zealand, which has very changeable weather, the question was asked how good does a forecast have to be? Is 70% right good enough? Because if you said the weather will be the same tomorrow as it is today we could have 70% accuracy and call it done. Here in Oakland CA...
