    Dehydrated meals - any recommendations?

Here are the tasting notes from my recent trip. I made them for my own future reference, so they're 100% my personal opinion. As an overall brand, Patagonia was the best and most consistent. Peak Refuel Homestyle Chicken and Rice: Very filling. OK taste (6 of 10). Needed longer to rehydrate...

Basin and Range National Monument, NV

I spent two days and one night in Basin and Range National Monument and cannot recommend it more! I think it's an overlander's dream location: endless miles of dirt roads, wide open spaces, history to explore, and an almost complete absence of people. The Basics: Basin and Range NM is a...

    Rafts for fishing?

I've had a Watermaster for years. It's perfect for slow to moderate rivers and smaller lakes. It's not exactly sleek, so rowing for longer distances can be a grind. You can put a trolling motor on it if you want.

Basin and Range National Monument, NV

Thanks for all the great information, @genocache! Looks like you had an awesome trip in a really cool rig. My plans are still up in the air, but if I do end up in the area I'll update this thread.

Basin and Range National Monument, NV

Can anyone provide insights in the Basin and Range National Monument in Nevada? I might be in the area and am curious about road conditions, camping, etc. Looks like a cool, remote part of the world. Anyone traveled there? Thanks!

    Jarbidge, NV

Thanks, @Desert Runner! I do plan to get a fishing license, but will focus on fly fishing the small creeks and rivers along the way if they're not too warm to safely land the fish.

    Jarbidge, NV

I'll be traveling from Elko to Idaho Falls at the beginning of a fishing trip to Montana and beyond. Any local advice anyone can offer? I'm truly just traveling though, so not looking for hardcore trails...just interesting dirt roads to see some of the beautiful country in the area. My...

    Rafts for fishing?

I have fished out of a Kodiak raft by Water Master for years and absolutely love it. It's on the pricey side, but the design, quality, and customer service are well worth it. It's a single-person raft, and rated to carry 750 pounds of gear, so it's often used for expedition travel and on...

    Corral Hollow trail conditions

I posted this on another thread. As of yesterday, the west entrance at Cabbage Patch is blocked by a locked gate. The east entrance by Bear Valley is blocked by 4+ feet of snow. It will be a while (mid-July?) before it's passable.

Overland Expo West 2019 - Who is going and where are you coming from?

Sacrilegious, I know...but I'm thinking of a quick fly-by on Saturday just to check out the scene, explore the vendors, and get a feel for the event for a more extensive trip next year. Fly in Friday, hang out Saturday, fly home Sunday. I know I'll miss all the extracurricular stuff, but it's...

Corral Hollow Trail: How is the Snow?

I drove to Bear Valley today. There's absolutely no way a wheeled vehicle can do Corral Hollow in winter. Snowmobile, maybe. Snow cat, probably. Otherwise, you're looking at a long snowshoe or back-country ski.

    Your favorite highway?

#1 - Starting from Moab, UT: 1. 191 South 2. 95 West 3. 24 West 4. 12 South End in Bryce Canyon National Park This route passes through several parks and monument, some of the prettiest southern Utah red rock country, and takes you across the Devils Backbone. Seriously, one of my favorite...

US West 2017 4R TRD Pro, Dublin, CA

Not sure if this is OK to post, but saw this rig on the lot at the Toyota dealer in Dublin, CA this morning. Looks very clean with some nice mods already done. Gobi roof rack and ladder, BAMF sliders, etc. If I was in the market, I’d definitely check it out. I have no connection to the...

    Pismo / Oceano Dunes recommendations?

Speaking from experience, try to resist growing overconfident as your comfort with the terrain increases. The sand is all the same color and drop-offs truly do appear out of nowhere. That's how I ended up hanging from my seatbelt in a '78 Blazer balanced on its nose. Thankfully (and...

    4Runner Owners Registry

I parked my dirty, just-back-from-a-mountain-road-trip 2018 Calvary Blue TRD Pro next to a shiny new Voodoo Blue 2019 at work this week. The new car sheen is impressive, but I like the lived-in look.
