This looks awesome! I'm glad to see it was such a success! I just wish I would have found more information about it sooner. I'm down in Pearland too and would have definitely made the trek!
Not sure If I'm part of the wrong Houston Overland FB group but I didn't see anything...
This is a great question!
I've thought about this a bit for both our vehicles.
At this moment and not waiting for future Gens or options:
Our 4Runner would be swapped for either a new TRD OR or a GX per my wife's instructions. Each would include immediate swaps to BFG or Toyo All-Terrain Tires...
I think the Overlanding definition usually involves some bit of dirt or gravel to a destination but it really doesn’t matter.
Whether it involves dirt or not, I always tell friends and family we’re going on a camping road trip. It’s easier to convey. Lol
That's an awesome name!
I'm a big fan of personal too. Usually, we go with girl's names. However, I struggled to find a name for our Jeep since 2016. It wasn't till around 2018 that I put a sticker on the back window that has the outline of a bear. Ever since then I always thought to myself...
This sounds like someone is using something outside its design parameters. Most runners I know spend $150+ on long-distance running shoes that they'll wear out in 6-mos. I don't run so I don't spend that much on shoes. I would be using those kind of shoes outside their design focus as a walker...
I like all the hoopla. Do I buy it all? no. Does it all have a place and a market? Yes.
The excitement drives innovation and technology development which, as in most markets, drives a higher bang for your lower buck (relatively speaking of course). I don't hate on companies charging a premium...
I haven't found anything else about this anywhere. So, I'm assuming this specific event is a no-go or it's some small club that isn't active on any of the overlanding/exploration forums.
As such, I'll be passing on it.
That being said, I did find that there is another event this same weekend...
That sounds like a pretty decent incentive. I'm sure there are those that'd say you're saving $20/hike which is true but maybe being closer is nice for random trips back to camp for odds and ends.
We did Imogene and Ophir this last July 13th and it was fine. No snow on or near the roads. There is a lot of truth to afternoon downpours though. We got caught right at the pass on Imogene and it poured almost the whole way down to Ouray with some light hail. There was a tour Ram 2500 in front...
Sand terrifies me. I avoid it at all costs and hammer through it if able. I used to do a beach trip down in Matagorda every year and would have to drive about an hour in sand to get to our campsite. It always felt like hell. Now I just time it with low tide and relax a lot more!
This is a great thread with some good feedback! I like your take @grubworm. With the goal of maintaining options, it really frees up yourself to not stress over the next day or the next thing.
On one of our trips, we got so tired of fighting the cold and waking up with frost in the tent that we...
So you're saying it isn't worth it to move from General to Premium. Do you know if the camping set up is any different between the two? I thought I saw something about Premium sites being much closer to the Expo so as to not require a bicycle to go back and forth to camp.
Looks great! I'm such a big advocate of console and glovebox dividers. They've been, by far, one of my most useful modifications to date in both our vehicles.
Welcome from Pearland.
@Roots66, Is this a default message that pops up? I don't think the Bryan/College Station meet-up happens anymore based on the link. Looks like the last activity was from 2021.
Gorgeous pictures! How were the hikes? Last time we did snow hikes, we trekked through 18" of fresh snow in Canyonlands, which was tough, but worth it!
I have a friend with that package and his family loves it. Modifications wise, there really isn't anything it actually needs (lift-check, 35s-check, steel bumper-check, lockers-check). It truly is a turn-key off-roader/overlander.
Depending on your adventures, some recovery gear and gas in the...
