    GMRS installation

I install radios in vehicles for a living (like police and fire vehicle radios). Definitely agree with what everyone has said about going direct to the battery, for the reasons they list plus many more (modern vehicle fuse blocks don't like tap-a-circuits for much more than an "ignition sense"...

Third try - now a Bison!

Well, happy to report that our test run went well! Sleeping under the awning with the wall kit was great (we hung a tarp to cover the gap next to the cab) and our new cots were very comfortable. We of course learned some lessons (bring an outdoor rug for inside the awning, make sure to park...

Betty, The Atomic Bison - Colorado ZR2 Bison Build

I've been a ham since 2005 so it's what I do anyway to be honest with you.

US Rocky Mountain 3rd Annual Buena Vista June Jam (Colorado Front Range)

We're shooting to get there around 11:00 or noon tomorrow. Don't wait for us; if we can catch a run, great. Otherwise we'll relax at camp until you get back!

Third try - now a Bison!

So I wrapped up a couple of details today. First, the seat delete has received its coat of bedliner and now it's bolted in tight: We started to add a few items to the roof rack. A 23Zero 180 degree awning (we also bought the wall kit but haven't tried it yet): And an Ironman 4x4 50L/13...

Third try - now a Bison!

A quick side project: bed lights. Picked up a cheapo kit at Walmart that included 8 lights and a tailgate-actuated switch. I tapped power from the trailer electrical socket (I don't tow with the Bison, that's what I have my F250 for :grimacing:). Given the $30 cost, it's worked pretty well...

Third try - now a Bison!

The rivnuts seem pretty solid so far. I was able to tighten the mounting hardware to them pretty tightly and didn't feel any movement, and compressing the rivnuts with the supplied "tool" was not difficult. That being said, the truck hasn't been driven since I finished the installation...

Third try - now a Bison!

It's been a couple of busy days! We got the Prinsu rack on without too much trouble other than the drilling. As many have said, drilling into the roof channels is an absolute b*tch. I started with my decent titanium bits and partway through the first hole I had to run to the store and get...

Third try - now a Bison!

Yep, I'm a bit intimidated by the drilling but I drill 3/4" holes for antenna mounts at work all the time without too much concern. I'll just have to be careful!

@Boostpowered for some reason the forum won't let me PM you. Maybe try sending me a PM that I can reply to?

It got a little bent up when I removed it but I saved it and I think it could be reused. Let me take a pic and I'll PM you!

Third try - now a Bison!

Well, I went to lay out the hardware for the Prinsu rack last night in preparation for installing it this weekend. Lo and behold, not only was I shipped the wrong hardware pack but I was shipped the wrong side rails as well! Their customer service was pretty responsive and supposedly the...

Third try - now a Bison!

So, starting to get some movement again! Prinsu roof rack has arrived and hopefully it'll go on this weekend (if it ever stops raining long enough to drill holes in the roof) and our new 23Zero 180° awning and walls should ship next week. In the meantime, I took the opportunity today to remove...

Vanity Call Signs! What does YOURS mean?

AA0BF. 2x2 because I can (amateur extra), AA because it was available, 0 since I'm in CO, and BF for my initials. Unoriginal yes, but simple.
