Ridiculous. When we go to Max Patch in October, I'm going to take a trash bag up there and grab anything I can find and fit in it. I'll have my sons with me, so we won't have a struggle hauling it down. I may call the Forest Service folks and see if we can just leave the bag or bags at the...
I'm looking forward to the reports on the trail conditions. I'll be heading down there with 1 or two other Jeeps on October 16 and will hit Hurricane Creek Rd. on the 17th or 18th (more likely the 18th).
Just keep your receipt. Never heard of a prosecution, but if they did, it won't fly far if you paid. You'll probably get it anyway before the end of the week.
Right now, we're leaning toward the TN/NC/VA portion of the route. Anyone have a guess as to how many days that should take?
Our #2 option is the VT/NH/ME. I'd like to know a guess of how many days that one would take, too.
I've got a window of 7 days.
I now have the GPX files for much of it from appalachianbyway.com, so I'll upload them to Garmin Explore soon to get an idea of how much off-pavement it is. It sounds from the descriptions like Virginia has some of the best off-roading along the way.
Yes, it is great fun! As long as they don't get too much rainfall, the only real rugged part is in Utah, but its great fun! We ran from Montrose to Moab in mid October of 2018. Saw very little snow and the water crossings had essentially no water in them. Weather was beautiful. We did the...
I'm not a bike rider, so I'm just guessing that if ruts aren't as big a deal to bikes, then it wouldn't be hard. The ruts are really the main challenge for 4x4's.
Wow, I grew up in the shadow of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and am a HUGE open wheel racing fan! Of course, Mario Andretti is one of my all time favorite race drivers in the world! I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but I have met his twin brother, Aldo.
That Jeep is just amazing...
Welcome, Roberto! Let's see some more pics of that amazing Jeep and beautiful corner of the world! Love the shot you posted!
If not for this danged virus, I'd fly out there just for the privilege to take a ride with you!
I bought a used Delorme off Ebay for just over 125 bucks a couple years ago. It is the one that is one step up from the mini. Garmin has supported it with firmware updates, which I did last in July. It works great. $24 a year access fee, then I can choose the plan that fits what I'm doing...
Any reports from them on the ruts? Also, wouldn't be a bad idea to pick up trash along the way. When it was closed, that was the big reason given. That's what I'm going to do next time I'm there. Not all along the way, but just whenever stopping, if there is trash around. And there was the...
I'd love to go with you guys, but I don't think I can swing it. I'll be following this thread, so post some pics, please! I may head down to Hurricane Creek in October!
I'd love to go with you guys but I don't think I could get down there early enough on Friday. If you give a good report, I may look at it in October or December.
IT was very muddy, too. Without the mud, things would certainly be better. With a group, you could work through it. Especially if someone has a winch. 4 Runner is pretty darned capable. If muddy, 33's would be minimum, I believe. They'd be right on the ragged edge. Unless the ruts have...
