I'm kind of divided on this one.
Not everything I do is about the Army, and I don't want it to be.
As an option, you do you. I ain't telling anybody else how to internet.
Throw in some food and water, weather appropriate sleeping gear, and go roam around in your local woods for weekend.
Keep track of what you really wish you had brought, or what capabilities you don't have.
When you get back to town correct the deficiencies.
Lather, rinse, repeat. Pretty soon you...
Have to differ with you on this.
"Unfortunately, it's well past time for SXS and ATV bans. Plated motorcycle and trucks only on certain trails. Motorcycle, mountain bikes, and horses only, on others. SXS users are the biggest douches out there right now. Not woodsy frat parities, which still...
Lindenwood mentioned mitigating risk. That helps. Google "Army composite risk management worksheet". It's kind of bogus, but it lets you identify the "what if" questions, determine how bad the impact of these events could be, the likelihood of the event happening, and what you can do to lesson...
Another update:
Fridge cabinet/latches built.
Electrics run and wired in, except...I need more cable to make the battery cables (dammit!).
And now it's calico, working on the liner stuff paint job. Got the top (pain in the butt), front clip, and back doors done, and everything else scuffed...
Lot more room in there without the radio stack!
I rolled around in an M1151 frag 5 for a while, always thought it would be fun to strip the armor of of one with the better drivetrain and stiffer suspension.
This isn't the political side of the problem, but it fuels the argument for shutting areas down.
Pack it in, pack it out seems so simple, but some people don't seem to get it.
Our trips vary. Sometimes we just go to one spot and camp a couple days, other times we make a trip out of it.
I don't think it matters as long as you're getting out there.
My mindset makes me want some sort of objective in my trips, but it doesn't have to be huge. Lots of times we just fish...
PVC pipe can be used in potable water systems. If you build your own container, be sure you clean it out and sanitize it before the first use.
A 100 to 200 ppm bleach solution is an effective sanitizer. Make sure you get at least 30 seconds of contact with all surfaces.
Be sure you rinse the...
Our whole build is (sort of) simplification. At first I had a Jeep pick-up, a tent, a cooler, and a cast iron skillet. pretty simple, but it could get a little rough sometimes.
Then I bought a Dodge Ramcharger, pulled out the back seat & made a bed there, got a Coleman stove, and went with...
Got more done! Built the fridge slider and stuck the fridge in. Still need to box in the front, but that depends on building the counter...everything seems to depend on everything else:grinning:.
Got my 4X4 conversion scheduled for June...
I worry about spray foam causing rust later on, so I avoid it (I know other people like it, but that's just my opinion). I'm using two layers of 3/4" rigid styrofoam and a layer of 1/4" closed cell/foil in all the thin places, with a plastic sheet vapor barrier (upper parts of the walls, in the...
Definitely take care of the tires. Getting the windows sealed up isn't too hard.
My first thought would be getting the fridge and solar tied down. You don't want heavy objects loose inside the cab with you.
Second, I would get the fuel tank squared away. Longer range is always nice.
You can...
