We have been hearing a LOT about the new JL and I for one cannot wait. I have been REALLY wanting a 4 door Wrangler and I am holding out for the new JL instead of a JKU.
On the Rugged Ridge one, all it does is extend your air intake. You still use your factory air cleaner and everything else from the air cleaner up to the throttle body is factory. I can't see how anyone can ding you for smog issues.
I personally could not tell a difference with my 200 HP Wrangler but, I would imagine something with higher horsepower might have some benefits of a CAI.
As long as you keep the rig running, the water will not rush back up the pipe. I have stalled in the water before and never had a problem restarting it. I figure as long as I start it back up quickly then the water does not have enough time to climb up the pipes, fill up the muffler, and work...
Most of my wheeling is in the South Florida swamps. I have been hood deep for extended periods of time before and, on the Wrangler, as long as I have my doors on, I don't get water intrusion inside the cab.
I spray everything in the engine bay with WD-40 to help repel water as much as possible.
