Where to sleep around Las Cruces, NM in May

Probably too late but the Valley of Fires campground was nice, they have tent and RV sites. It’s about 3 miles outside Carrizozo, NM.

ernst tenaja is a pretty cool formation. you have to drive out old ore road (4x4/high clearance) to get to it. if you want the shorter way to get there go north from the south end of the road. black gap trail is fun for a little wheeling. you can take the river road east around to the mariscal...

    Midland radio help

I think some folks aren’t going with a permanent install so that makes a good temp solution. But noisy. Also if you want more power, direct is the way to go.

    Midland radio help

this is a really good suggestion. if your cable is next to any electrical systems i could "couple" on the jacket and create that noise. Ugly Choke or Ugly Balun, will do wonders for filtering noise!

    Midland radio help

if you can i would recommend running fused line to the battery. mostly because that is going to be your cleanest source of power. you can even relay it through an accessory line if you want it to on/off with your vehicle power. another thing to check would be your antenna connection and wire...

    Baofeng GMRS

Mostly to help boost your range. If you have a bunch of handhelds that are pushing their range, you can have a rig with a repeater function parked that they all call into and the repeater "repeats" the signal to the rest. Fun rabbit hole, especially when you get into ham radio, things like...

    Baofeng GMRS

if it comes already setup for gmrs then yeah you should be good to go. chirp does some nice stuff on the amateur side where you can download a bunch of repeaters in your area and program quickly. also nice if you want to create multiple lists.

    Baofeng GMRS

Baofengs are great little radios to not care about if they get broken :D Get the programming cable, DO NOT INSTALL THE SOFTWARE IT COMES WITH, use Chirp to program. Amateur radio (Ham radio, not HAM) technician class license is pretty easy to get and cheaper than GMRS. Great mobile rigs that can...
