US East Western Virginia Monthly Meetup

Haha, hindsight is 20/20. It seems like there is all kinds of info about this issue, but I just never stumbled across it. Thanks for the info! I'll be swapping the t out soon. Just had to get off the side of the road today...

For all of you Nissan drivers out there, this may or may not help you save some headache... I just had this heater hose inlet blow apart on the way to a hike. It was very brittle and the inner parts crumbled when taking it apart. The replacement is $18 at Oreillys, and it is aluminum, so...

US East Western Virginia Monthly Meetup

Just had a quick question. I've got my account set up to send me emails when things are posted in a "watched" thread, but I havent gotten any at all... Since March I've been trying to stay off of my phone as a lot, so I forget to check on here or other social media sometimes. Does anyone have a fix?

I think I'm gonna stick with the aluminum as it works kind of like a cover. But I am going to affix some removable bug net to it so I can open it from the inside, attach the net, and have a window!

Well, I pulled out one of my tool boxes today while at the station. Next step is to clean up the sharp edges, make a bug screen, and make a little table that will hook to the side of the bed for making coffee, and cooking and such.

    Ham radio modifications

I think it depends on where it comes from. This one I bought from a US dealer who kept them in stock in their storefront as opposed to getting one that shipped straight from China. I'm assuming that is the only difference and where my problem arose from. I was even told by another friend that...

    Ham radio modifications

I had tried to find some info based off of that, but most of the TYT radios weren't locked down like that. This was a software lock that had been added to comply with the FCC. Thanks for the info though!

    Ham radio modifications

Awesome! This is exactly what I ended up needing. these instructions, and the TH-7800 programming software from grapevineamateurradio.com are what worked for me. For some reason the software I got from TYT and from MTC would not recognize my radio. Thank you for the link!

    Ham radio modifications

Hi all! I was just posting here to see if anybody may have any experience modifying a TYT TH 7800. My issue seems to come from that I bought it from a US distributor, so it is properly locked down to the 2m and 70cm band. I would like to be able to monitor our GMRS and NOAA channels, but in its...

I have a much less pretty setup on my truck, but I have a vent installed on the top for extra airflow, and I built a very basic platform to raise me off of the bed and add some storage beneath.

    Cancelled Western Virginia Roanoke Meet-up

As far as comms go, what is the most common setup people around here use? I have my tech license and a mobile setup in my rig, but just curious if it would be beneficial to get a CB as well, or GMRS, or just have all of the above. Thanks for any input!

    Ham Exams are now Online

I did a remote test with GLAARG and passed a couple days ago, but as others have said W5YI is doing it and Anchorage is as well. I had messaged them all independently and got a date with GLAARG first. Everybody has been awesome through the whole process!
