Metal Winch line? WELLLLLLLL That opens a bit of a conversation. PERSONALLY I prefer synthetic line in order to save weight and for safety in case of breakage (flying soft line hurts less that flying steel cable) The ONLY reason I would say steel winch line is better is if you plan to do ALOT...

Are Canvas Tents Suitable for Overlanding?

Considering people have motor traveled with canvas tents for over 100 yrs I think you are find. The issues of course are space and weight, the roof top tent is a thing of convenience, modern ground tents can be lighter and smaller (except canvas) The other issue will be packing a wet tent and...

    Airing down Falken Wildpeaks AT3W

Mud tires have NOTHING to do with it....I have had my rig in Falken's booth at a few Overland Expos and talked with their folks many many times... I have a 7800lb Ford Transit 4x4 (true conversion NOT AWD) and I play in dunes and Baja beaches a bunch.... With my Method Beadgrip wheels I have...

    Recovery

What a loaded question :) So first I will clarify some assumptions based on your short question.... 1) Sounds like you are a solo traveler 2)Sounds like you drive a Tacoma 3) Your location is in North America so I assume you will be starting there. Here are the things in order of importance...

    Going it alone, or not?

Alone when I know the area, with 1 buddy (or max 2) if exploring a risky unknown area with tough 4wd tracks. Group stuff drives me crazy and even with friends I have found after about a week I am itching to get solo

    Bed suggestions

The bed sleep I have ever found camping in on an Exped Megamat, either single or duo depending on your size and space. They are 3-4in thick inflated and yet pack reasonable, I love my little usb pump (fits in my hand) for topping off the "self inflating" aspect

Prepping for a long than my usual trip.

You need to read the blog from Adventuretaco.com and realize you are well setup and honestly only need to add fuel and food to have a great time.

Need some help planning a 3 week overlanding trip in Utah

Don't bother with a winch, not enough rocks/trees you can winch off of unless you have some solid desert experience. Spend the money on 4 Maxtrax, an air compressor and tire repair kit....I like the Extreme Outback bag The Ultimate Puncture Repair Kit (Choose Bag Color) | Extreme Outback Butler...

Rockfall closes White Rim Road near MOAB.

Well that looks like more than a couple of winch lines can handle. With our underfunded agencies I hope this gets fixed before too long, but I figure about a year would be lucky.

More than one unrepairable punctured tyre?

Well I see you are in Columbia, so really only YOU can answer your question. I have traveled some "remote" areas of the USA (Nevada has areas with a long long ways to a tire repair) and Mexico. In all my years I have always been able to "repair" a tire, including sewing big slits down the...

    F650 airliner food delivery truck

Love the creative repurpose of a pretty cool truck, scissor lift is crazy heavy but what a fun factor.

    Best small propane firepit?

Building your own with Amazon ceramic rocks and quick disconnect parts is super easy (if you have a welder, and not tooo hard if you just bend some metal)

Considering a move to Boise, Id

I have noticed there are some gatherings and trips around the Boise area so I figured this would be a good place to ask like minded folks about a move to the area. My wife and I are in our early 50's, she is retired and I work as an ICU RN, kids grown and gone and house has been paid off for...

2wd rigs in action. Photos encouraged!

I have taken 2wd's to a ton of crazy places.....rear locker, good tires aired down and driver control will work wonders. Important note, you still want 4 traction boards even though you are 2wd, often you need to get the front wheels out of a hole/rut/sand/mud/snow and back up on the surface.
