Hey Folks!
I'm so glad to have come across this incredible community of outdoor adventurers. It's been quite some time since I got out and about on four wheels, and look forward to joining you all on the trail.
So, a bit about me. I'm a damn-near fifty year old soon to be retired bomb technician. I'm happily married to the love of my life and have two amazing kiddos and three fur babies. We recently relocated to Utah from our dream home and location in Alaska - aging parents make you re-evaluate some things I guess. As fate would have it, they now live with us (more reason to go overloading for a few days?)
I grew up in the small mountain town or Allensparlk, high in the Colorado Rockies. I bought my first truck, a 81 Toyota SR-5 pickup at 16 and spent countless hours and days four wheeling all over. Most of my friends had trucks, and we'd disappear for days on end in them. One of my best friends was a master mechanic since he was ten, and now runs a garage in Bend, Oregon - check out Daniel Automotive if you are in that area.
Then, life happened. College, job, marriage, grad school, kids, job, rinse, repeat (except the marriage, still on #1). As time went on, I spent less and less time out on four wheels. However, I never lost touch with the outdoors. No matter where we lived, I found myself out adventuring. It was just mostly on foot rather than in a rig. I'm now wanting to get back to what I once knew so well, and am starting that process with my '05 Silverado.
I bought my truck up in Alaska and made the 12 day journey down to Utah with her. Well, not alone, I had two labs and a corgi with me. In late November '18 the four of us set out to drive across Alaska, through the Yukon, BC, Montana, Idaho, and finally, Utah. Since then she's capably taken me to Flagstaff, the Grand Canyon, Moab, Zion, and the Bonneville Salt Flats.
I imagine some of you are thinking "...a Silverado, for overloading!?" Well, what can I say? I'm 6'8" and 250, I don't fit in much else, I need something 'Squatch Rated". I'm not looking to go try out "Hells Revenge", but am looking to getting out on some USFS or BLM land and sleeping under the stars.
She's basically stock at this point, though I am running 33s on the stock suspension. I have a sleeping platform in the bed, and that's about it. I'm gonna start to document my "build" here in the next few weeks once I'm done with this post-deployment CoVid quarantine.
I'm looking forward to sharing that process, and seeking gaining your input along the way. With a little luck, I'll be seeing some of you out on the trails.
