Things have changed a bit over here at Okie Built. We went from building a Wagoneer to our current project. When the opportunity came up for us to pick up a very clean FJ40 we jumped all over it! The FJ, for the most part, is stock. The motor has been swapped out for a Chevy 283 and was mated to the stock tranny and tcase with advanced adapters help.

The plan is to build a simple yet functional truck to take out on the trails. The suspension, and brakes are first on the list. Then we will move on to the "bolt on" goodies.

Really looking forward to where this FJ is going to take us.

Holy smokes this looks showroom quality, I'd keep that as my Sunday driver and pick another one to beat on trails hahaha
 
The truck has been rebuilt a few years ago. However the salt water air has not been too kind to it. There a several spots that need addressing to stop the rust. Its a great "tener". Looks good at ten er so feet back :)

@stringtwelve Thanks. This is my first Toyota, besides the short stint the family had in a Camery. Been a Jeep guy for as long as I can remember but have always wanted a FJ40.

I plan on starting with the basics:
  • 2.5" lift kit (manufacture TBD, open for suggestions)
  • 33" tires (General, Cooper, or BFG currently undecided)
  • Rear disk brake conversion (front has already been switched)
  • Roof rack from Front Runner Outfitters
  • Rear tire carrier and bumper with receiver)
  • Converting the 283 to TBI (have an old Holley Performer kit laying around)
  • Dual Batteries
I am sure more will come down the road but that should get the ball rolling. What wheels are on yours? They look great!
 
@jason 1. I really wanted to see a built out Wagoneer. 2. That FJ is awesome and I want to see that get done too!

Sounds like a good plan. I like Old Man Emu for the older landcruiser lifts.

What rear tire carrier are you looking at? I need one on my 45 too.

The wheels on my rig are American Racing Mojave's in 17x8.5.
 
@SLO Rob I agree with you, the waggy had big plans and would have been a great vehicle. We just had the chance to pick up the 40 and it seems like a better fit for us. I will find another waggy in the future I'm sure.

I was looking at OME and IronMan4x4 for the lift. The rear carrier I was leaning towards building one. However the 4 plus looks like a pain free way to go as well. How do you like the wheels? Any issues with them?
 
I like the the 4Plus setup as well.

The wheels have been perfect. I'm running 1.25" Spider Trax spacers all around to give a little extra clearance on the upgraded calipers. They will "fit" without them, but the clearance is pretty tight.
