Weve gone from a 90 degree CVT to a OVS 270 to a 23Zero 270. Our last trip was heavily off road oriented so we dropped down to a Kelty Tarp to try and reduce some weight.

Anyhow, we are potentially if finances hold out heading North in 2026. We are considering an Awning, straight pull with an awning room. We have 3 people and a dog so I thought it may be nice to have some screened outdoor living space.

But in all reality, how big of a PIA is this. We’ve done the 270 with awning Walls, I just thinking a 90 degree awning with a room may be nice to completely close on those cold days and keep the mesquitos out in the wet climates….

thoughts?

I ran the ARB awning with the add on room for a few years. It worked well. The nice part was it was separate with its own roof and floor. No place for bugs to get in. The reason I don't use it is the opening in the back to access your vehicle door wasn't ideal for my set up. In light wind its real noisy. If it had its own poles and could be used as a stand alone also, would be a nice feature. It would stiffen up the material enough so it didn't make noise in the wind.
I agree with the awning wall hassle. I have the 23 zero 270 on my trailer. I only deploy the walls for inclement weather and not if I'm only stopping overnight.

We used to have an annex on our 23 zero tent and it was great for cold wet nights and mosquitos but heavy and a pain to put up. We recently switched to a Bush company wedge tent and were missing the bug free environment. We already had the Bush Co 270 awning and much prefer the ease of set up and pack away along with the extra area that it provides over the ARB that we had had previously on different vehicle. On this last trip we purchased an 8x8 coleman screen tent which is pretty light folds up small and is self standing so we can place it anywhere in camp. On wet days it fits mostly under the 270 awning and we throw up two of the awning walls for privacy or if the wind is blowing. Just got back from a long trip to Utah and almost exclusively just used the screen room for our overnight camps placing it where the view was the best. Was nice to sit out late at night with a good view and no annoying insects.

I have the arb room and straight awning on my xterra. I love this setup, especially in the cold, and when it's windy. Yes, it makes some noise, but it's so nice being out of the wind and bugs, and having a buddy heater in there is very nice.

It's honestly not that hard to set up. I've had the whole awning and room up, and staked down in 10 minutes, solo.

I have a 270 awning on my trailer, which I also love. But I have heat in the trailer, so no need to have an additional room to heat as well. And, the awning room blocks access to my stove box, so there's that, as well.
