Thanks for the confirmation! I moved you up to the top list.
I may lean on you a bit on this trip.

Tell me again if you are a HAM operator?

Dan.

Well, its about time. Happy to hear your going. Since you done this trip before, how much fuel did you take along? I was wondering if we filled up at the Casino, would that be enough fuel to get out and to the next gas station?

I burned a lot of fuel. I carried 10 extra gallons and still had to drive into baker and fuel up. I was being hard on the throttle playing in the sandy areas. I think with a full tank and an extra 5 gallons you should be fine if you're not hot rodding the 4runner.

When I ran the road earlier this year I brought along an extra ten gallons just in case (On my roof in my profile picture) I didn't actually end up needing any by the end of the trip... I had a little under a quarter tank left at the end (23 gallon tank, I get 11-12 MPG city, and 14-16 MPG highway with a tail wind heading downhill)

I was planning on bringing about 8 extra gallons and starting the road with a full 35 gallon tank. Worst fuel mileage I've ever seen was 12.5 mpg. I figure with the 8 extra gallons I should be ok.

Hi, I would like to go if work permits. I am a ham and have permanently mounted radios in jeep as well as multiple handhelds. I have done the trail and also work in the area at times, so I know the area pretty well.

Is there a bypass for the watercrossing or no? Not that it matters, I'm just curious.

The rest of that section (before and after the wash out) is very rough - Like Lippincott in Death Valley.

here is Afton:

That's the second water crossing, and probably the deeper of the two. Should be OK, it's soda lake that concerns me by then. Did you cross that with no problems?
