Welcome aboard Kelly,
Greater Reno has lots of trails and thing to do with-in an hours drive. Eastern Sierra, Pyramid Lake, Tahoe, the Truckee River, the great Basin. Within a 4 hour drive, you have North Sierra's to the Oregon Boarder. Southeast Oregon Desert. In all seriousness - visit the local Visitor Center. TravelNeveda.com has a great "Official Visitor's Guide" We've picked it up everytime we drive through. South of Carson City, in the little burg of Gardnerville - there is a great Basque restaurant in an old hotel. Then you have the entire Pony Express and "The loneliest Road: from Wadsworth to Ely, on S.R. 50.
