Camp Photos!

Was going through my images the other day and found these two photos - whilst strictly not 'camp photos' they were taken when camping :grinning:

There are so many photography threads here, and so many new shots going up now that everyone is home more, I can't keep track of what I've posted where. So forgive me if I've posted some of these before.

These were all out in the Chihuahuan Desert along the Mexican border last year about this time.

Was supposed to be back out there right now teaching workshops.

Got a late start so setup in the dark just outside of Carlsbad Caverns Ntl Park on a little square of BLM land. This was the next morning after a full night of rain. Rain/mud would be the theme of this whole trip.

1960's when I was a younger, every summer was months of camping...... So thankful!
Although we did not camp much growing up... I remember having grandpa's huge oiled canvas tent, like in your pic, in a big wooden crate in the garage as a kid. I think we used it once or twice ;) Thanks for the memories!

I swear, I think I feel more natural 'camping out'. Perhaps from my days as a homeless youth, I learned to get creative with where I rest my head. Now that I'm middle class, I can afford to make it comfortable too.

Great pics yall!!

Here is a camp photo with a little story...

During this lockdown I have had the ability to spend a lot of time in my "home office". In this room hangs an oldey-timey hand colorized photo of my great uncle cooking breakfast. Roy was a Portland OR police detective and an outdoorsman; he was the ying to my grandfather's yang (outdoors stuff). The photo in the corner is my "overlanding posse" 10-15 years ago; death and attrition have knocked us back to 6 or 7 regulars. I think the picture of Roy was taken in John Day OR near Strawberry mountain - but this is a guess. Picture of my group is in the Castle Mts Montana.

Pacing the room one day I got interested in this photo and pulled it off of the wall and found this on the cardboard backer

And under the cardboard this photo that I can only assume is Roy:

Amazing thing is this picture went from my grandparent's generation to my folk's generation to me; I have had it for 10-20 years. All that time my folks and I were unaware of what lay beneath.

I'm digging the tent sections coming off the vehicles. We usually sleep in ours, so it would be neat to have it turned into rooms. We don't usually stay at one place too long though, so these types of setups have always seemed too much work. I may rethink that now.
