I think you made the wise choice. Better equipped than the TRD for less money. I was faced with the same decision and went with a 2017 Zr2 diesel and have loved it. Enjoy!!
Thanks! I will say this, it drives a lot better than the Tacoma. Whether it holds up as well remains to be seen but as of now I love it. Feels like a tank. Interior is average, but so are most in this mid size class to be honest.

On a very recent trip we spent about 5 hours winching, high lifting, moving rocks, etc etc, to get a built Chevy ( 2.5” Lift etc etc, ) and a stock 4Runner Trail, up and through a section of tight Canyon just south of Chicken Corners on the Lockhart road. If the 4Runner Trail would have had 2.5” of lift he would have walked right through as my vehicle did. Don’t get me wrong, that Chevy with the diesel is one fine machine, but it’s not the billy goat that I expected it to be. (FYI, my LC and the 4Runner were dragging trailers, the Chevy was not )
