Seems like now is a good time to think about, plan and map out where you want to go once the virus travel restrictions are lifted. Here is what I am working on.

North to South in Oregon coast mountain range, wander around the back roads of eastern Oregon, wander around the Owyhee area, NW Overland Rally, Colorado BDR, Circumnavigate Oregon, Baja, wander around Blue Mountains, Southern California BDR, Nevada BDR

Whats your list of trips?

I am currently 10 months into a 24 month separation from my truck. When I get back to the US I am hoping to take a trip to Our for FJ Summit in 2021. In the meantime I am planning a trip to Australia in rented Land Cruisers. In fact I was supposed to be completing the trip today and flying back to Korea tomorrow, but COVID-19 had other ideas.

First on my list of trips is the one I'm supposed to be on right now; another solo South of I-10, Another America expedition.

I'll still do it after The Big Pause of 2020 lightens up, I hope, though most likely heavily modified and dependent on remaining agreements and contacts. Already had one man I wanted to see die from Covid-19.

Primary Goals:
- Exploring South of I-10; photographs and interviews
- Canoeing, hiking, camping, and photography in wildlife and bird sanctuaries around the Gulf of Mexico
- Leading photography workshops; mostly night sky and mostly west TX borderlands and NM
- Art murals; have a couple contracted
- Explore more thoroughly the Trans-Pecos region

Primary Route:
- Coast of Maine, United States >> Ohio River valley and ancestral roots in east Tennessee >> east end of I-10, Florida coast >> saltwater coast close as I can through Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas >> Brownsville, Texas > close as I can through backcountry, ranch, and small town along international border between Mexico and the US all the way to El Paso >> follow the Rio Grande and Pecos from Texas up through New Mexico into Colorado:

Rough outline of route:

Trans Pecos:

After that, depending on time of year, impending weather, if I'm still alive and other factors, I'll either head back down to the border and continue west south of I-10 through Arizona and southern California, or head north again into Wyoming, Montana, and the Dakotas, maybe into the western provinces of Canada. Or maybe back up towards the Maritime coast of New England, New Brunswick, PEI, and Nova Scotia for night sky work there.

I've been to and explored all these areas before and know them well. Though I want to know, understand, and document the people, local cultures, and personalities of the areas more thoroughly. Especially as the world changes and rapidly homogenizes and assimilates unique places and cultures to the point they no longer exist.

Hoping for the OB WABDR rally in June. Planned the entire Mackenzie Trail run in BC and want to do that. Unless things go real sideways will go to NV in Sept, if NV is not an option we will fall back to a buddies ranch in Bend.

@Luinil - have a couple cousins in Oregon City, pleasant spot. My extended family had a cabin on Strawberry Mt in John Day, would love to go explore there. We have spent a lot of time in SE OR and love it!

I'm planning small trips for the immediate future. Right now, I'm working routes for Big Sur, Coyote Flats, and the Mojave Road. These trips are mainly for Labor Day weekend and Memorial Day (if quarantine is over by then).

@shortbus4x4 - we are monitoring and a bunch of folks still want to do the WABDR with or without the NWOR. Go check out the event on the Rally Point if you are interested. Whether or not we do it in June I am sure we will...

Hi!

Great route you have planned there. I have travelled the northern and northeastern part of North America some years ago for about 6 months. Looking forward to ship the rig again one day and explore the west, middle and south :-)

Cheers, Bjoern

Our intent this year is to explore closer to home (Nor'east Maritimes) deeper. Have two routes marked out for the Maine Sur & the New Brunswick Sur. Only traveling up just over Fundy National Park on this run.

I am planning to run the TAT after visiting friends in NC and also plan to spend a couple of weeks around Salida, CO.

There is nothing worse than Ouray with a crowd. I'd highly recommend waiting a few months past the Summit to visit. Fall is spectacular and not crowded at all....

Assuming all is well and it has not been cancelled, end of August my dog and I are doing two weeks from Lubbock, Tx to all points Colorado.

LBK to ALBQ
to Mesa Verde
to Ouray (Alpine Loop, et al)
to Telluride
to Gunnison Black Canyon
to Idaho Springs
to Mt Evans Byway
to Loveland for Overland Expo
to Estes Park
to Rocky Mountain NP
to Pueblo (R&R)
Home

Aug 2020 Colorado Trip.png

The goal is 13 peaks at 11k' or more. Four of them are 13K' and one is 14k'. Some are drive to or near the summit while others are half day RT hikes. We will see how my body fairs plus weather conditions throughout.

Hoping to get some class time in at Overland Expo. Saving cash as we speak for many purchases at OE and hopefully a down payment on a trailer. Have narrowed it to a few, but keeping it simple and can grow to something with more of what we like or miss.

If that fails, I will do a NMBR fall tour through New Mexico.

New Mexico Overland 4WD Tours & 4WD Training

His trips look pretty amazing. I have been through a few areas he leads through but on my own. Would really like some hands on with self rescue and a few other things I would like to improve my skills with.

Trip to Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana on indefinite hold. Florida camping is off the table with the summer heat, bugs and hurricane season here, it’s already in the mid 90’s. Maybe a couple weeks in the Smokys in late fall, conditions permitting. The truck will be ready for sure with all the projects underway trying to stay busy on lockdown.

I'm moving to Montana when the restrictions lift, and i'm planning on taking the scenic route. I'm open to any stops or suggestions. Right now i'm looking at taking 15-20 days.
White Sands (Maybe)
Joshua Tree
Grand Canyon
Zion National Park
Grand Tetons
Yellowstone

I plan on powering through to Joshua tree in 3ish days, then taking a slow wander north.

There is so much in MT and area to explore, but specifically on your route you might look at Bloody Dick Road (SE MT near Lima) or the Castle Mts near White Sulphur Springs. Direct message me if you want to chat more about that great state.

Heading from Miami FL to Eden NC where Dan River meets Smith River.
Plan is loose right now and any input is welcome.
Looking to make as much of the trip in dirt as possible.
Plan is to take highway to Helen GA and start the trek on Smoky Mountain 500 rd v6
Find some connecting trails or off highway driving to connect to Old Cataloochee Turnpike to Waterville Rd
Hit a section of HardFORD50 continue the drive though the Cherokee Forest and connect with Tweetsie Trail - JC to Elizabethton, then hit 19E to Camp Tom Howard and lastly hitting Virginia Creeper Trail to bring us back east to Eden NC.
This is what I could muster together based on GPX tracks and gravelmaps.
If anyone has gone a similar direction and has a great route already mapped out I would love the input.
Thanks guys and stay safe.
