As of now I'm going on a Mexico cruise next week, then Joshua tree/pioneertown in February, running the Mojave road in march, and in May I'm attending my first e clampus vitus doins as an official red shirt. Most of you won't know what that is, but I'm excited for it.. And it happens to fall on my birthday weekend.

Just googled it, very interesting... "Historical Drinking Society" or "Drinking Historical Society"?

i'll be visiting my mom for 2 weeks over in the Philippines, it should be fun to hit some beach resorts.

Which means all my build budget will be depleted. The good thing is that i have the Gobi rack ordered already, and that the wife has approved RTT purchase. Those should aid for our plan to do a short-trip to Badlands/Black Hills and a weeklong overland at UP and Drummond Island in MI. Negative vacations left after 2017.

Myself, wife and service dogs are going into the wild, full time. After the both of us serving in the military and deployed, we are finally ready to get out and see this wonderful land we both have shed blood, sweat, and tears for. I have spent the last year rebuilding a wrecked truck we had purchased fairly cheap. We are mostly new to overlanding as well as this community, but no rookie novice on survival, land nav, or anything outdoors. So time to make our dream a reality and trust in our abilities and know-how to traverse America.

My wife and I started doing the same thing. I retired last August and have been fulltime travelling ever since. Congratulations.

Travel: Heading up to Telico Plains for the Eclipse in August. Spring trip to West Virginia. If we have time will try to make it back to Overland Expo East.

Mods: Air bags in the rear (tired of dragging my tail when loaded). Would like to get our trailer this year so we can step up our game but we haven't come to a meeting of the minds on which one. We started talking about a RTT but we already have a weight problem. We have a ground tent that we load on the roof rack and it kills gas mileage so figure the RTT will do about the same. Still not totally sold on the trailer idea because it will limit our ability to just "whip in and whip out" but do like the idea of being able to leave it loaded for the next trip.

I pull an M416 military trailer. I love the ability to setup base camp and my rig is clutter free. The trailer is just a bit smaller than my Jeep so the trailer doesn't catch much wind. Plan on building a double rack for supplies and rtt in 2018. For what I do, the trailer is the way to go. Besides that, it's military. No worry about breaking anything on the trail.

Planning cross-country trip with my 11 year old son. California to Georgia where my sister lives and Tennessee to visit bro. Taking a mid-country route there (Lincoln Highway-ish) and more northern route on the way back. Hope to catch the August 21 eclipse in OR before dropping back down to CA.
Very excited to show my son the beauty and vastness of this GREAT country of ours!

Getting Snugtop (sport hi-liner) for the trip as it is my son's dream (and my unfulfilled childhood fantasy) to hang out in it to eat lunch and sleep. Lol.

The truck build starts when the snow melts. Already have the roof rack and tent, and a huge wishlist of other things. Gonna be a good year!!!

For the Jeep Grand Cherokee, complete my roof rack and then design and build a single level drawer system for the back end and then a DIY water heater tank, install I CB. Then a couple trips to see how that all goes and what else I might need for that kind of stuff.

When I need new tires I'll go up a size or two and install a simple lift to it, no more than 2 inches should be good for what I do, but not certain if it will be a 2017 or 2018.

The wife and I are planning a family trip for a week in June to drive around and visit some people and places we've been meaning to for some time now. We've got friends from college that live in Maryland as well as Virginia we want to see, plus some friends and family in NC that we've been saying we'd come see. We're going to try to sprinkle in a few days on the OBX camping and one night in Gatlinburg Tn as well for some down time.

I guess I'll be getting the Xterra ready for that was well as throwing together a little trailer to help haul our gear since the dog will be going along as well, filling up the cargo area. We usually take my 2000 K2500 GMC Crew Cab on trips to the beach since it has ample seating and cargo room but in a single vehicle, but I want to see how well the Xterra and a small trailer (4x6ish) will work on these kinds of trips in the future. Guess we'll see how that goes!

I've also got to take down a tower and some antennas I'm buying and get them home, finish remodeling my radio room at home, get the K5 back in action before I wind up parting it out, get the steering box, pitman arm, idler arm and idler arm bracket replaced on my K2500 and a large number of other things around the house. It appears that I have adulted myself into a very tight corner....

Really want to start doing some real overland trips this year. Going out to PA in March to Anthracite, just looking to build up my knowledge and confidence before starting to plan my Trans America trip.

Last night I submitted my vacation request so I can (hopefully) attend this year's overland expo in AZ; I thought it would be best to request now vs waiting and getting declined because I waited too long to submit my vacation; I'm in the planning stages of my trip going through MT, ID, UT, returning via CO, WY, MT.

Mods: Getting some bed lights installed, and maybe a 2" lift + tires; haven't decided which tires yet, any input is much appreciated :).

Travel: Going to Minneapolis to visit family in May, then in June doing the whole Forestry Trunk Road loop, and in August driving to Sooke to go salmon fishing.

New plan for me, get used to driving a slightly taller (I'm used to driving a lowered car) awd diesel powered car and try to save up for the little travel project I'm working on.
