I'm a believer in having something and not needing it versus needing it and not having it. (Pick one or more of the following)

What is 1 part/tool/item that you've:

1) Needed and wished you had
2) Had and never needed
3) Needed and actually had on hand

.....

1. - Chainsaw - left at camp. We were driving out of the bush to hit town after a week in the bush. A tree was down on the trail we had been on a number of times with the quads... it was not expected. So I used a little handsaw and snatch block and winched it off the trail.
2. - Shotgun. Only really used it once to scare off a bear at 1:00am... or it might have been a moose... either way it was making too much noise for me to sleep....
I guess my big first-aid kit hasn't really been used either... except for some polysporin and a bandaid.
3. Fire extinguisher. I've used it 2 times now. Colorado grass fire in the ditch spreading to the field. Tractor-trailer tire fire on the side of the highway near here - used it to create a fire-break so it didn't spread into the forest.

1) a sleeping bag!
I was too busy getting everything together that I forgot it. A quick stop at Walmart solved the issue.

2) recovery boards (not too much sand in my neck of the woods but they may be helpful some day. Will still carry them)

3) first aid kit. A hiker had a large gash on her leg. Was able to give her a lot of gause and some tape and she was able to hike back to her vehicle.

[QUOTE="2) Had and never needed[/QUOTE]

I have lockers on my Tacoma and have never used them. My over landing setup is also my Everyday driver. My lockers are more of a gage then anything else. A gage that tells me I am getting close to stupid if I have to turn them on.

Things I wanted:

Front tow hooks,
Ladder rack for strapping tools, tranks.
Those neat plastic ramps for recovery
5000lb comealong.

Things I needed:
Bigger first aid kit. The little walmart ones suck.
Off-road GPS. Or a bunch of good topo maps.
Spare recovery strap
5gal gas tank.
