  • Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

It's only four weeks to my first proper overland trip, across Southern Africa, and so I went looking for a guide into the heart and soul of overlanding - and I found it in 'The Prairie Traveller: A Handbook for Overland Expeditions', a 19th Century account of travel across the US. What a fascinating read...

And oh, the #1 consideration for overlanders back then (and I guess still today) is...weather! It could change the entire route for my trip.

Cheers

Can't wait to hear of and read about your travels across S. Africa. Are you going in a group or just you and your partner in the avitar/picture? Best of luck!!

Thanks Eric. A mix of travelling solo and in convoy...

I've started a post in Overland Trips Then and Now, where I'll be uploading updates on my travel...
