My wife and I were delighted to read your article this morning. Especially regarding the diesel conversion.
We live in Solano County and have a 94 80 series and we just blew the head gasket in July (343,000 miles no less) - We parked it until we decided what our next step would be.
One of my concerns was how to get a California gas vehicle legally converted to diesel - and it seems that you just did it. There's not a lot of info on this so I wanted to just ask - that is, if you have the time...
I'm interested in what you paid for the engine/tranny... Did you have to go with a manual, or could you have used the AT?
I'm interested in what you paid the shop for labor/parts to do the conversion.
And what was the process with C.A.R.B. to get it registered as a diesel, and what you have to do going forward in order to comply with smog....
Great job and thanks!
