At Panaca, NV the detour to both Cathedral Gorge State Park, and Echo Canyon are advised.

Suggested detour, at Cedar City, I'd go South in I-15 t0 SR 17, to La Verkin, taking 9 through Zion N.P. to Mt. Carmel Junction,
then head North in 89 to 12.
