Swamp Lake in the Sierra National Forest

Have any of the OB members been into Swamp Lake in the Sierra National Forest using the shorter North-to-South route? I have the Wells/Peterson guides to CA backroads and they list it as difficult. I consider myself more of an overlander than a wheeler, but like to have good fishing lakes as destinations. Any recent trail condition knowledge about the North-to-South route would be appreciated.

Same here. I go up there a lot, but have never taken that trail.
