So I have been playing around with the idea of a roof top tent for my explorer. I love the look and the ease of a roof top tent however lately I've been thinking about building some kind of storage system for the rear of my car that can be unpacked into an awning with tent room attachment off the rear of the vehicle. This would then allow me to build the bottom of the storage system to fold out flat (after unpacked) to accommodate a blow up mattress. Really what it boils down to is if it would be worth it to have to load/unload so much just to have the comfort of sleeping in the cab or if I should just stick with the probably easier route of a rooftop tent. What's your guys opinions and/or experience with something like this?
