My basics are-
salt
black pepper
oregano
basil
garlic powder
cumin
chili powder
montreal steak seasoning
Reaper powder (superhot pepper powder)
Cinnamon
Sugar
Brown sugar

The bulk of food we make is Mexican, Italian or BBQ, but have faked some Indian.

Usually I'll pick out some recipes and premake and pack homemade rubs or add specific spices, but I can usually manage with those.

Wow! That's an enviable list! I tend to raid the cupboard just before we head out but usually have the likes of;
Cayenne Pepper
Chilli Flakes
Curry Powder
Various BBQ and Steak rubs
Garlic powder or in a tube
Ginger in a tube
Stock cubes
Coriander
Soy sauce
Sweet chilli sauce
Oyster sauce

... not usually very good at lining up the recipes with what I have.

Pathfinder I

Ours is pretty simple. We do mostly weekend trips so we don't need too much variety.
  • Garlic salt (which we put on basically everything)
  • Lemon pepper (rarely gets used)
  • Taco seasoning (used for everything Mexican)
  • Curry powder and turmeric (I don't think we've ever used this)
  • Chili powder (rarely gets used)
  • Lawry's seasoning salt or Montreal steak seasoning
We just use a small spice containers, leave them in our kitchen tote, and refill as needed.

I find when i am out camping everything tastes better. just need salt pepper and butter.
This ^ (the foundation) :P

I still carry just about everything else anyway tho… + lots of curry powder / BBQ rubs.

These are (were) pretty convenient but don't carry enough variety for me and are not very secure…

….ended up just putting all my spices in some old metal film canisters.

Salt, pepper, all spice, creole, garlic, and hot sauce covers 90%of my needs. If I am planning on cooking something like chili the list grows.

I know it's an old thread but I'm bumping it anyway.

The spices that always live (permanently packed) in my chuck box are
Black pepper
Sea salt
Lemon pepper
Onion
Garlic
Oregano
Wondra
Honey
High altitude flour
Coffee
Tea bags
Cinnamon sticks
Sugar

If I'm making something special I'll add what ever else I need.

I am clearly not among the elite. Salt, pepper and Chili powder are all I carry.

I posted this question a few years ago on ExPo. I received a bunch of answers & I settled on "Garlic & Pepper" Clover Valley brand from Dollar General. It's delicious on everything. Compact & only a buck!

While I usually try to meal-prep ahead of time for longer trips or trips where we're short on cook time, I always carry a spice container that holds salt, pepper, cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Those are typically what I use anyways.

My box has the basics like salt and pepper, but I also carry some Cavender's All-purpose Greek seasoning, and the all-important I put that s*** on everything Fuzzy's Tacos "Fuzzy Dust". Yum!
